2010 SS Shakes

My 2010 SS has about 23k miles on it. Bought a set of 4 Apex wheels. New tires in the front all balanced. At around 80+ it shakes the steering wheel. Car is garaged and not daily driven. Never wrecked either. [ Alignment looks good, brakes are good and no shaking on braking. Car has stage 2 supporting mods and a 1le low mile diff with 3.91 Any one have any suggestions on what I should look at. I am setting this car up for autocross. Have Bmr poly bushings on the diff and Bmr trailing arms with poly bushings. What am I missing?

New tires in the front : Have you checked to see if new tires are perfectly round or " tire frame defect " ?

Could quite possibly that the tires were not balanced properly, check the balance on the rears too since you only got new fronts. And if the tire shop does it, have them "road force" balanced.

I took them back to discount tire and they said one of the tires was out of balance by a 1/2 ounce which made it a little better. The tires are high performance summer tires and it has been a little cool here but not lower than 40. Would something in the rear cause shaking in the steering wheel up front?
I will also check into the road force balancing.
Thanks for your help.

Have you checked the driveshaft hanger bearing?

I was dealing with a similar issue, and ironically also APEX wheels.
My issue was steering wheel shake around 45, and vibration starting around 70 and got worse with speed.

Took 3 different tire shops before they got it right with road force balance. Now it is perfect.

One thing of note, the center hub of my apex wheels are slightly larger than the OEM wheels, and the wheel could technically spin out of round if not tightened properly. By properly I mean snug up lugs to let the acorn center the wheel by hand while tapping the tire to get it to move. If you just run them up with an impact, they don't seat properly.

It did make a notable difference for me.

I discovered this while trying to find the issue when tire shop(s) tell me the balance is good.

That's kind of nuts! Did the APEX wheels not come with any "hub rings" that go over the Camaro hubs, and center the wheel hub on the wheel hub to make them "hub centric?" All my aftermarket wheels came with hub rings to make sure that wouldn't happen. Wow, for the price of the wheels you would think they would.

No hub rings as APEX said they were sized proper. My set for sure has movement on the hub. Maybe my set just has too much clearance. Either way it did have an impact on the issue.

I think that was the issue initially. I did as you said and snugged everything up and may try it once again. I may put my other tires back on there. I will also try taking a look at the driveshaft bearing also but this car is pretty clean unless it is factory defect I think it is highly unlikely that I have a bad bearing.

The apex wheels I ordered were supposed to be hub centric made specifically for the Camaro. I will call them tomorrow and double check.
Thanks again for your help with this.

Yes, like yours, the ARC 8 is advertised as a direct fit hub centric wheel. It's a little loose IMO for hub centric.

FWIW, I used my stock wheels to diagnose my problems. I think that would be a good idea for you also.

Wow! You figure the money that those APEX wheels were they would be a "perfect" fit. Sad you had issues with them.

Yes sir, very welcome. I guess sometimes the wheel manufacturers just barely miss the boat. You could always get a slide caliper measuring device and measure the wheel hub, then the center hub on the rotor to see if there is any difference. The smallest amount could make a vibration. Some of these wheels are "lug centric" instead, not a perfect way to go.
