Thanks SummitWhite11! I'll look into that, hopefully its just the broken heating element wire in the backrest.

The car has the hurst short throw shifter. I’m hoping something just needs to be adjusted, wrong fluid in the transmission, or something else simple, lol. What does everyone think?

Also my drivers side heated seat doesn’t work, but the passenger side does.
What should I be looking for? Any common issues?
The light for the drivers side heated seat lights up for a minute or 2, then it shuts itself off
Are you aware of this? If not, most times on the manual cars you need to be higher up in the RPM's to get a clean shift into 2nd gear, or it will have a "doesn't want to shift" into second gear, and is made to make you go straight to 4th. Fuel saving thing they said at GM.

Here is the solution for that crap..

Hope this helps.

OEM Hurst short throw i assume? Has the Hurst "H"on the stick? If thats the case i can say that, that shifter is extremely notchy. Two weeks prior to ordering my 1LE back in 2013, I test drove an SS that was optioned with the Hurst shifter. It was super hard to get into gear and had a very distinct click and almost hesitation going into gears. 2nd was definitely worse than 3rd or 4th but that hesitation was still there just not as prevalent as 2nd. Literally exactly like you describe it is how I remember it. Youre pulling into the gear and it feels like its there (first notch) then you pull a little harder and it clicks and notches in a 2nd time.

If youre looking to upgrade the shifter i highly recommend MGW

I remember this from back in the day on my old 4th gen Camaros but I believe it had a light on the dash that would light up when it wanted you to skip to 4th gear.

Is there no light on the dash anymore? How would someone know to skip shift?

I'll have to see if this car has the skip shift eliminator installed already or not, thanks for the heads up. I didn't know they still did this

Is the the OEM one? I'm not sure if it is or not.

I'm not sure if there is one or not, nobody has ever said there was, just that it wouldn't let you go to second without a fight, or higher rpms, forces you to go to fourth. It's probably what camarodreams says about the short throw characteristics.

No thats aftermarket. Its Hurst's billet short throw. Haven't driven a car with that shifter before. I know people upgraded to brass bushings and helped the feel but no idea where to get those.

As far as skip shift goes, it will say it on the DIC (driver information center). It will gave a 6 speed H pattern displayed and will highlight the 1-4 shift pattern. I could hit 2nd gear about 3 or 4 times before it would unlock. When I DD'd the car i would jump 1st to 3rd probably 85% of the time and it will indeed lock out 2nd and 3rd. I haven't seen the message since probably 2020 because I got the car tuned and it got turned off. I dug up a photo from an old thread of the message you will see and has the criteria for skip shift to turn on/off. If you're pushing past skip shift, you can severely damage the trans. So hopefully what you're experiencing is just a notchy shifter and not you muscling past skip shift.

Thanks for the info on the shifter and skip shift! I'm a totally newb when it comes to 5th gens.

I don't believe I'm seeing the skip shift on the driver information center, but I'm usually not looking down there anyways, unless I'm checking my speed. I'm just listening to the engine and shifting. I'll pay attention on the way home from work today. For now I've just been going 1st to 3rd... but I did try 2nd twice yesterday one time it was fine the other time it grinded a little before it locked in.

(After re-reading the info on skip shift you posted, I'm definitely over 19mph in first and over 21% throttle. So I doubt this is a skip shift problem)

Another thing with the car I just noticed, my speedometer is 5mph slow. At 75mph, I'm actually going 80mph. At lower speeds it's more accurate, 55mph is around 58mph actual speed, etc. The car has stock size tires on a stock 20" wheels.

I'm guessing the rear end has a different gear ratio than stock?

Great info sir!! Thanks for finding that for him!! I'm an "auto guy", so I don't delve much into the manual stuff. Learning new stuff everyday on here! That's why I love this place.

There is some documentation on this forum of a 2nd gear grind or 3 gear grind in the TR6060. A fluid change definitely wont hurt. Manual rears are a 3:45. An extremely common mod was to upgrade to the 1LEs 3:91. If it has a cast iron diff vs aluminum thats from a ZL1 which manuals had a 3:73. Just throwing out some possibilities since both of those are fairly common upgrades.

I have the skip shift delete, but see the message I would say "fairly often". I usually am going above 3K every shift (when I can) just because I love the cool engine sounds. But I surprisingly still get the skip shift message that CD76 described fairly often. I would definitely watch for it and see if there is a potential relationship there to your grind shifts. I also have some notchiness sometimes, but very slight. I had Redline D4 when acquired car, but changed back to OEM fluid and it seemed to help reduce. I don't track the car. I also feel my 2nd gear shifts are a bit smoother when I am intentional with a bit of sideways pressure (to the left) when pulling into 2nd gear slot.

Is Redline D4 ATF still the go to for transmission fluid?
I see a lot of people saying it helped reduce the 1st to 2nd gear grind, but most of these threads I'm reading a REALLY old.
