Has this happened to you?

Im soooooo mad!!!!!
I ran over a freshly painted lane line that did not have any signs for wet paint so essentially i dont know where it happened, but now the left side of my car is peppered with yellow paint! I have been driving for 17 years and never had this happen. i called the body shop and they said the only way to get rid of this is to sand and repaint. so i then called the ins co and they said it is covered under comprehensive. at least its covered but what a pain in the a$$! just thought i would vent.

If it was honest to goodness paint, and not thermoplastic, I'd try a solvent or two before I went the sand and repaint route. Most traffic paint is latex these days. You probably have a good chance of getting it off with a little elbow grease. Good luck.

Yes that happened to me about 23 years ago. I had just bought a black formula 350. So, one day I washed it but the white salt didn't come off. It looked like it was dirty. I forget how I got it off. The new camaro paint is delicate, but I bet there is a way to get that off like with a chemical or some compound or scratchX or something. There has to be a way.

thank you for the replies. i have tried elbow grease and rubbing compound will not come off. body shop said the paint has dried on there and it will not come off without sand and repaint. do you guys think they are lying? i would think if they repainted it would look as good as it did before this happened. tell me what you think

don't take my word on this, I've never tried it, but I've heard of people using wd-40 to remove tar and stuff from paint. Anyhow if it came down to doing any sort of sanding, light water sanding and rebuffing that side of the car would be your best option IMO

Edit: here right from the WD-40 website
I've heard that people use WD-40 as a cleaner/remover. What can it be used on?

WD-40 removes sap, tar, adhesives, labels and tape from surfaces without damaging existing paint. It's an effective cleaner for tools, equipment, and vehicles. Use it to remove splattered bugs from the front of cars. WD-40 will even help remove gum from carpet. Just spray, wait, and wipe with a clean cloth.

about half way down http://www.wd40.com/faqs/

I think I'd ask the local department of public works what kind of paint they use to mark the roads before deciding what to use to get it off. I think re-painting is a little extreme.

You can also try GOOF-OFF... i used that on my 93 Pickup to remove some spray paint that some fool used on the door to paint over sticker residue from removing a city work truck sticker. ha. worked great, and didn't damage the paint -- BUT the paint was 17 years old. If i had to use it on my 2010 Camaro i would DEFINITELY test somewhere hidden first.

and WD 40 will clean easy stuff too... try that first! its less harsh than goof-off.

no matter what you do, when you are done, wax wax wax!
