Lurking under the hood is the 6.2L, supercharged V8 known as the "LSA." While that motor is good for 556hp in the CTSv, there seems to be some debate as to whether GM will allow the Camaro to have that much power. "

I think this is exactly right, the Z28 should not have that much power, it should have WAY more!!

Ya this year they are 2.4L v8's, and there's some suggesting that they're approaching 950-1000 hp at 18,000 rpm. (FIA limits the revs to 18K) They never really release true power numbers while they're in use for competitive reasons.

the problem is sometimes they don't even last the 1.5 hrs that a race lasts and the fuel consumption is QUITE large to make the peak power. Although they can adjust the mix on the fly when they're trying to conserve fuel, which is a big plus because this year they are also not allowed to refuel during the race. 1 tank has to last the whole race.

I'm a huge formula 1 fan, I love everything about these cars, but I do not want one of those engines in my car haha. They sound like they're stalling at 5k rpm. One of my professors once told me "the perfect racing engine will blow up as you're crossing the finish line" haha that means it's been worked as hard as it possibly could to get you there.

This type of technology has filtered it's way though to our production cars already. Look at all the small displacement european V8's. But to increase reliability you need to make it spin slower, and to keep the same power you need to increase displacement. It's all tradeoffs.

I'll take a high revving screamer for my race car, and the high displacement atomic bomb in my camaro. An LSA in this car will be like releasing an axe murderer in a summer camp.

We spotted this vehicle a while back.

GM recently announced a large investment in next generation V8s.

Who wants to connect the dots?

Your assuming they want it to stay a secret.

As for the Gen-V motors. I'm willing to make bets that it shows up in the vette first. Think 6th gen Camaro.

I wish they didn't, lol.

Gen V LS-engines: I don't think they'll make it into the 5th Gen., for at least a couple more years. It'd be nice to see they roll-out against new Mod' Motors and HEMIs, but I don't think we'll see them anytime soon. I still feel LSA is going to make it into Z28 and than in maybe a couple years, we'll see a Gen V for SS, and maybe even a revised version for Z28. GM stated they were investing that hundreds of millions of dollars into V8s, so those are still probably a few years away. We already know they've been playing with DI on the Gen IVs, so I think we'll see that for SS in a couple, but we aren't going to see anything significantly new (this side of DI on the Gen IVs) until at least the C7 comes out; maybe not even until the 6th Gen comes out.

The sooner the better though

As far as I know, trucks are getting the Gen Vs first.

Odd, but I can see the logic given the upcoming CAFE stadards. But I would have thought they'd use the Corvette as a showcase for the new tech.

Maybe not. I might've made that up.

However, I have heard that there will be both DOHC and OHV designs. DOHC for trucks, OHV for cars.
