MRT v2 VS. MBRP

ok guys i need help deciding, i really LOVE the MRT v2 sound but yet at the same time i want to add a little horsepower with the MBRP. MBRP doesnt sound bad at all but the price is kind of expensive. oh yeah, on the MBRP website their is a number called 409 and 304 stainless steel, i have no idea what this means, can anyone chime in?

MBRP:

PROS: +12 RWHP, +25ft/lbs

CONS: +/- $1000, doesnt sound as good as MRT v2 IMO

MRT v2:

PROS: SOUNDS super badass and its only $500

CONS: doesn't add HP or torque as far as i know, but dont quote me on that.

So guys what should i do?!!?

409 is the less expensive stainless steel, same as on the stock car.the 304 is the good and expensive stainless.

Good looking maybe. 304 won't tarnish. Both won't rust or become damaged.

MBRP is an awesome system. That's what I have. Can't speak to MRT other than I know it sounds as good or better than the MBRP.

im really leaning towards MRT v2 because it sounds better and its cheaper but i really wished it came with some performance qualities.

I have the MBRP in 304 stainless, because my car will go to the occasional car show. I really like the sound it makes. I also have JBA shorties so that could help the sound too.

One piece of advice I can give in comparison between the two systems. The MRT v2 will be easer to install. With the MBRP, there are a lot places to clamp down. With the MRT there is only the place where old exhaust is cut off.

and its not like theres zero gains with MRT. You will get a slight bump in the middle to upper-mid range of the RPMs. It may only be 5 HP but its there....plus you should get a slight increase in MPGs.

are those MBPR gains the manufacture gains? Or was it someone here? What we seem to be finding is a lot of manufactures claims aren't exactly accurate....

I actually seen some HP gains with the MRT Ver 2.0... but really not 100% sure on the gain... My baseline pulls at 100% stock were in a range of 241 to 248... I've been using the 248 as the stock baseline... but I could have just easily gone with 241... With MRT ver 1.0 I went to 250 RWHP... But then when I went to MRT Ver 2.0 my car jumped up to 255 RWHP... So if I wanted to play games I could say I went from 241 RWHP to 255 RWHP with the MRT Ver 2.0... But I certainly haven't been telling people that! I simply say there is minimal gains at peak, but there is some nice mid-range (5400 RPM-ish) gains..

I think when it comes to exhaust on this car, it's really about finding the SOUND that you are going to like... performance gains are more secondary...

yeh, when i saw that 12 additional hp gain, i was skeptical myself. After hearing your side of the story Scrming, i think im gonna pull the gun and get the MRT v2.
on a side note, im very new with this whole exhaust and performance topic. What are headers? will replacing headers increase HP? will headers void some part of your warranty? and lastly, is installing headers a DIY job?

I'm no expert myself. I consider myself a newbie too... but I've recently asked about headers, so here is what I understand from it. Headers are the pipes that are directly connected to ur Engine. So if you have V8, there are 8 pipes, v6 there are 6 pipes. Headers will increase HP, Long tubes or AKA full length headers. I'm not 100% sure if Shortys gain HP. I think changing the headers wont void warranty, from my understanding it's Bolt on, no cutting or Welding. Last but not least, I think you can DIY, if you have a Car lift. You need to be able to go under the car.

Anyway, don't quote me on any of it... but thats what my research has reaped in =D

You'll see some HP with shortys because of better flow but not as much as you'd see with Long Tubes. Shortys while technically "bolt-on" the downpipe still needs to be cut and re-welded where as I believe the LT's are straight bolt-on.
