Z06 vs Camaro SS
I'm not posting to ask who would win in a race (already know that answer) just wondering how the 06+ Z06 feels/drives vs the Gen 5 Camaro SS. I love the Z06's look and wanted to see what the driving impressions were.

Rides and drives better however the center gravity of the car is much lower!! But the Camaro get more looks and that's all that matter!!! Lol .. Oh and the z06 is double the price !! Even now a 06 z06 is the same price as a Camaro SS .. But it's all perference

While I've yet to drive the new Camaro. I did have an 05 Pontaic GTO which isn't too far from a weight/handling perspective. The Z06 is much more tossable, imagine loosing nearly 1000 lbs and taking corners.....with it's light weight and stiff suspension it's a blast to drive hard. Highway on/off ramps were never so much fun!
Obviously this comparison is apples to oranges, be like if I asked how does the Camaro vs Z06 compare in cabin room. Z06 is a sports car and handles like one, over 1g attainable. The GTO I had leaned and "felt" heavy, Z06 is radically different in feel. I'd imagine GM has improved the Camaro quite a bit in driving dynamics in comparison to the GTO, but if your looking for a track car for the street the Z06 is tough to beat.

The Camaro SS gets more looks then a Z06 Vette? How do you know this? Why do looks only matter as you put it? I'd rather have a light weight, world class handling 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and quarter in 11.8 car any day over a 4.6 and 12.9 car that weighs over 3800 pounds. I love my V6 Camaro but a Z06 is one of the most rare beautiful cars on the road. These two cars aren't even comparable but there is no way a Camaro SS is better looking then a Corvette lol. Corvette is King!

a Corvette holds it's value better then a Camaro by FAR! I'd rather spend that money on an 06 Z06 then pay that much for a 2010 SS Camaro considering you are getting way more value for your buck with the Vette plus the Vette will still be worth more next year after the Camaro has dropped down value. Apples to oranges, apples to oranges. A 2006 Z06 Vette is still faster then the 62,000 Hennessey Camaro that has over 600 horse power.

I have both and I love both. But the C6Z performs like a supercar right off the showroom floor. If you're just talking about all around performance, the cost difference between the two cars is justified and dead on. It's more than just the extreme acceleration you get with the C6Z. A Camaro can be modded fairly easy (<$10K) to run with a stock C6Z at the dragstrip. However, it's the combination of braking, cornering, and acceleration of the C6Z that has it outrunning Ferrari F430's and Porsche GT3's around race tracks. People say it all the time, but there is so much truth to the statement "it's a street legal race car". The only way to truly appreciate what that car can do is to drive one on a roadcourse or hitch a ride with an instructor driving one on a roadcourse. You'll then understand why it was the GM Halo car before "Big Daddy" got here (ZR1).
On the other hand, the Camaro is a beautiful American Muscle Car that can be made to be as fast as you want in a straight line and just having some fun on the street. Most people I come across seem to prefer the looks of the Camaro over the Vette. I've made some appearance mods to my 5th gen that really makes it look mean. I definitely get more attention in that car than my C6Z. My SS "looks" faster than my Z . I've had it almost two months and on two separate occasions, I've found people taking pictures of it. That has never happened in the Vette. Both cars make a lot of sense and save a ton of dollars given their performance levels and looks. They are GM home runs.

I also have been lucky to have had both and and several other sports cars ...
thebrander is dead on. The Corvette is also a great touring car .... as is the camaro but I think the vette feels better on long runs. As for wow factor it is funny I have had people ignore an Aston Martin, but everyone lights up on this Camaro. A vette is an amazing athlete Our Camaros are great Sports Cars

Two complete different syles of looks , "feel", acceleration, braking and handeling. It would actually be hard to even match the acceleration much less everything else. The ZO6 is a drag radial away from running 10's bone stock down to the air filter. The front end feels like its going to break apart from the rest of the car and run away from you. The acceleration is brutal and down right scary. The car can beat up on cars that cost 5 times its price in any direction. Its just 2 completely different classes of cars. Even if you some how got a Camaro to perform on par with a ZO6 in every direction you might as well have bought a new ZO6 because your overall cost of the Camaro would be more than the Vette. The overall comparison would be like comparing the Camaro SS to a new Joe Gibbs Silverado.

BTW, Jamie Furman (Z06 forum member) got a bone stock Z06 on stock rubber in to the 10's :1/4 - 10.981 MPH - 128.90 http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...fast-list.html http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1562974169-post219.html NOT easy to do given that that's the world record I believe??? But doable once in a lifetime it seems. DR's make it fairly repeatable though. |
