HW Patrol / Police 3rd Gen's: Ever ridden, rode, sat in one?
HW Patrol / Police 3rd Gen's: Ever ridden, rode, sat in one?
I got a ride in a HWP one once but I just kept looking at the dash. It was like a tray table hugh and didn't notice a roll bar. This is suppose to be the GM installed cop car roll bar. ![]() Id say it should shorten up the top a bit so not right over head, [cause id hit mine on it] but then run two legs straight down the sides to the normal attachment point in the floor but no cross bar so the backseat is still access-able. Probably no fat chance anyone ever sold this design out side of a GM installed option for the 5O cars??? Looks like it would work great with my notchback though.

I own an old 3rd gen patrol car and that's what my roll bar looks like, back seat is still accessible with the bar going down to the floor. I don't hit my head on the roll bar but then again i'm kinda short.

Any chance you could toss up some more pic's? Give me a better shot at copying it. I would probably hit my head. I don't fit in the car well, I can't even run the under dash plastic cover cause my big feet won't fit down there. So I got that cool exposed wiring look.

I guess I need to wipe the haze from my eyes but I couldn't see the down tubs in the pic I first posted. There is no 2 point.

My brother had a 1985 Monte Carlo SS and we did some work to the engine - 305 G motor and he put a 700R4 in it.
We had some Toyo tires on it, with wide wheels and a full Rancho suspension kit in it. Needless to say, one night they clocked him on the highway at 141 MPH. It took the State Police 27 miles to catch him. Every time they went to set up a road block, he was already past that point. Two of the cars that were chasing him were the police edition Camaro's and they couldn't touch him. He finally got scared and ran off the road, with about a 2 mile lead and when he couldn't get the car to move because he tore the front wheel off the car, he decided to run through the woods. The police caught him and put the boot to him. I was home in bed with my girlfriend and when I got the call the next morning to bail him out of jail, he was pretty shook up. That was mothers day, 1993 We brought the car home, I tied it to a tree, I pulled out the suspension with a 10 ton come along and 4 trees. We beat and banged the car back into shape and he drove it until he lost his license several months later. He then spent the money that he got out of the car on a 1988 Camaro, kind of a IROC look alike. I think that we have had about 10 Camaro's since then. |
