I initially was planning on an SS. But when I considered how quick the LT is, and the good fuel economy, it was hard to resist.
Putting FI onto the V6 is just going to bring you around to SS level performance and fuel economy though. So why not just get an SS in the first place? It would be more reliable and won't mess up your warranty. |

lol............... okay, first off, getting the V6 to FI isn't just to be as good as a V8. That's not really the point... I guess most people dont understand.. it's actually about pushing the V6 and what the V6 can do. Scrming says this all the time "It's a V6 thing".
If you are a V6, you shouldn't have to ask why I didn't get an SS lol. And I'm joking about getting an SS, not because of its power, but because of its options. I just want the V6 to have the same LOVE! =(

It all depends on how you tune it. If you go small turbos and try for low-end boost you are going to lower MPG (more air requires more fuel). However, if you tune the boost to come one around 3K RPM, then moderate driving won't get you in the high air flow range. With cooling of the charge, it is safe to run a slighly leaner tune at these low RPMs, so you get better fuel ecomomy.

I have never seen anyone add FI and not take a fuel economy hit. Whether you are using the power or not, you are still altering your fuel map. Then of course there is the extra hardware (plumbing on a turbo, pully on an SC) which introduces mechanical losses, and of course the extra weight. In most cases, the losses are worth it because you are going for performance. But for those who are looking to add power to a DD, think about what you are doing. Any time you start working with add-ons, you are introducing the possibility of problems, both initially and later on.
There is a reason they call it mod-hell

I do have to agree with this, Besides my old 1992 buick century custom.. this is the only car ive had that didnt have a turbo on it. I always saw a boost in fuel economy, paired with conservative driving. keep the pedal mashed and yeah i see you losing a few mpg's haha. But yeah, overall turbos make the car run more efficiently and when used conservatively, provides a decent boost in fuel economy as well. |
