Do you have a automatic transmission? If so in the instructions it tells you to bend a pipe out of the way to give it clearance.

Is everything fully seated? Including clamps in the correct locations?

I installed mine myself also and this was also the problem. Same deal I used washers.

thats what i thought at first but then i took the plate completely off and it was still making that horrible noise. and i checked to see if its rubbing anywhere and the clearance seemed to be fine

I took mine in and had it welded and it only cost me $70. Well worth it.
