i looked at the Z , but only long enough to weigh what you get from the Camaro to what you get from the Nissan w/ $$ factored in... that was the last day i ever considered the Z.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Everybody in this whole thread is wrong.
No you can't compare the Camaro V8 to the Z V6. No you can't compare the Camaro V6 to the Z V6. Why? One car is a 2+2 Usable car with a trunk and the other is a two seater sports car. Period. Which one is better is totally irrelevant. ON THE OTHER HAND: The nissan Z is nissans 'pony car' of sorts, while the camaro is GMs. On that note, for similar price, you get similar performance, regardless of what engine is in it (6 or 8 cylinders), or what other features the car has.

Some silly anti domestic bias in some of these posts. Borrowing from Obama it seems that some of you assume that GM is static and continue to have extreme predjudice against making an all around quality automobile.
Check out the latest Caddys, Suv etc and you will see some very good quality automobiles. Not quite at the upper echelon of the industry overall but a far far cry from the pathetic cars of yesteryear. I love the new Camaro looks. Wish it was lighter. Not sure why they had to make it that heavy. Gas guzzler now lugging all that weight around. 3500lbs should have been the limit then the 370z would have no chance. I love the 370z as well and I may end up in that if I dont wait for the Camaro but its going to be closer than some of the biased import guys think in the twisties. Heavy cars are not a death sentence when it comes to handling with todays suspension technology. If GM plays there cards right this car will be a performer in the twisties as well. BTW the new Cobalt SS couldnt beat the 06 350z in the Car and Driver lightening Lap course at VIR. So its safe to say the 370z will be beyond the Cobalt SS performance envelope as the 370z is neck and neck with the mid engined Porsche Cayman S on a roadcourse. If GM gets the Camaro to go toe to toe with the 370z/Cayman S then that will be a serious accomplishment and I would be ecstatic. Im a total car dude and dont car about brand name or country of origin. If the car is spectacular its spectacular. I happen to think both the Camaro and 370z will be spectacular especially judged on the performance per dollar catagory. As regards which will win in a straight line Im picking the Camaro just based on what my friends 4200lb SRT8 300C did to my 350z when we were bone stock. He rapped me nastily. Camaro will be lighter then the SRT8 and have 5 more hp and tq. Cant see 26hp bump for the 370z, with no weight loss, beating the more powerful Camaro unless GM saddles the Camaro with horrible gearing/redline. Off the line may be close but after 80 or so the Camaro should pull a little bit. Dont think it will walk the 370z by any means but it should win imho. All speculation until they do a head to head. Pease my car brothas. |

I'd like to ask everyone, again, to give some thought to what you're trying to say before posting.
I'm sensing a little lack of respect and I don't want to have to close another thread.

It is an exciting time for performance cars, we have some terrific choices....for pretty reasonable prices.

I thought the weight dist. of the Z was supposed to be 53/47?? But either way, Nissan is saying the weight dist. and suspension geometry/setup are such that the balance coming out of a corner (when the weight is on the rear wheels) will be ideal. After the apex when you should be getting back on the gas, the shift in weight returns the weight dist. to ideal 50/50. Nissan designed the car to be slightly heavy over the front axle for this reason (apparently).

Oh I wasn't singling you out...
...I've just been sensing a slight lessening when it comes to respect "across the board". ![]() No need to apologize, and I'll keep my nose out of it...we're all adults and can self-police ourselves.

The 350z that ran that track was the slowest 2003 model of the 350z. Since the 350z in 07 got the HR engine it is much much faster than the DE replacement model and the suspension was revised since then. The HR has been doing low 13s bone stock in the 350z. The 370z will be the same if not a little faster. |

People are just passionate about both cars, which is a good sign and should be respected by all.
