Dude I got PISSED just reading this. FRY HERE ASS! Seriously man she has no respect for property if she would go take your car like that!

From now on bit the bullet and leave your car in storage, maybe you can get a military discount.

Please let us know what happens because I'm pissed just reading this and I want to know what happens.

He thought the car was her brothers and she had permission, he never got behind the wheel) The girls parent don't have the money to flat out pay off the loan for the car and don't even intend to help her, but they want me to believe this girl they don't even trust under their roof is going to pay me back somehow. Not even going for that. I called the officer about 8am this morning and filed a formal report, by about 9am the girl because she was driving was in cuffs, and by 9:20 my Gmail inbox was 349 and emails richer, one from her father saying that I was a "soulless bastard" and 348 more from every offshore fly by night Viagra selling website you could think of, wonder who put my email on the mailing list. (Shout out to Google for awesome spam and junk mail filtering)

I don't know how familiar any of you are with former military only banking and insurance company USAA, but as of just before I came back to write this post USAA my loan and insurance company informed me that I now have a 0 balance on my loan and if when I when I get home I want another Camaro It would be as simple as picking a color. Pending then mailing me a bunch of paperwork to sign of course.
Glad it turned out in your favor and she got wwhat she deserved. You honestly may have saved her life, this will be enough to scare her straight.

As the story goes he let his troubled sister come stay with him after their parents put her out, and she and her equally retarded boyfriend decided that it would no big deal to take my car just around the block to the store. Somehow just around the block turned into across town. They actually had driven my car so long that there was now a need to put more gas in it so big brother wouldn't find out. While leaving the gas station parking lot the little sister who has never driven anything but her hand-me-down honda civic, got on the gas too much, spins out, hits another car, stalls, and then is t-boned. Car totaled.

This is where the story gets really fun. Once the cops get there, the story is the car belongs to a friend of the family and they had permission to drive it. Tickets are written, insurance exchanged, but no one goes to jail. .....HELL NO. Because the police report says They had permission, my insurance company is now denying to pay for the car, because as anyone who has put a vehicle into storage mode knows, that car can't be driven. They did however inform me that if I was to call the police station and tell the officer to change the report to reflect the car being driven without my knowledge or permission, then all is fine in insurance land and they will pay the car off as soon as they get the new report.

Back to aforementioned former friend. I have had the pleasure of speaking to him and his entire family all pleading with me not to say that their baby stole my car because it will ruin her life and she doesn't deserve that for a mistake. ARE YOU F_ING SERIOUS. They have politely offered to make her pay for my car however long it takes. Really...really. I'm grown with great credit and a 6 year military work history and I had to practically sell some a$$ to buy this car, where is a unemployed 18yr old going to get 35,000.

I am however slightly sympathetic because I was young once, got into trouble and the second chance given to me is why I am not in jail. What do you guys think.
The three rules once again;
1. DO NOT DRIVE ANYONE ELSES CAR.
2. DO NOT LET ANYONE DRIVE YOUR CAR.
3. START OVER AT RULE 1.
Report it stolen, you did not giver her permission.

Excellent decision, good thing you didn't trust this girl to pay you back, especially considering that her parent's don't even trust her to.

Yes and no. His policy would be the primary to pay out and hers would act as back up or secondary ONLY if she had permission. If she has her own policy or is listed on her parents policy as a driver and the car is reported stolen, it will not pay for any damages done by a driver while committing a crime (stealing said car)

As an insurance agent, I recommend the following: call the police, tell them it was stolen, let your insurance pay it off as a comp loss (theft), throw the 2 girls in jail and let her parents deal with it.

Here's what I'd do: Tell their family either they pony up the cash for a brand new car RIGHT NOW, or you're telling the Police and insurance company what the real deal is. I'd be so mad. They stole your car and totaled it. Not cool. They owe you.

like someone else mentioned, if the "family" (since they are all so worried about her) can get you the cash in a lump sum to pay for your car, then sure, don't change the report....but...if they can't have the money with-in a matter of a day or two then call the police station and chage the report. Let her daddy take a loan out if he's that worried about her.

You did the right thing. Scare them straight. A little jail time will make them realize they need to change. I don't care who they are. You do the crime you do the time. To many people go unpunished and get off scott free. Thats why kids are the way they are today. I hope it all works out for you when you get back.

OP you did the right thing. Sounds like someone had to set this girl straight, and it wasn't going to be the parents. Some just have to learn the hard way. And seeing how little the parents seemed to care about a 35,000 DOLLAR vehicle, sounds like they needed a lesson as well.
