What is the number for the tail light bulbs?

I would like to just replace the bulbs in the tail lights with some LED bulbs. Just until a good set of LED tail lights comes out (without any issues). For now some simple replacement LED bulbs will do. I have resistors already that I can put in the lines for them. Kust need to know what type of bulb to buy to replace them with.

3157, but the resistor will not, work your DIC will tell you you have a bad tail light every time you use your turn signal.

Hmmm... Why is that? I have it on my front ones with no issues?

The load resistors do work, I have them in front and back.
You just need to figure the math out and get the correct load, as there are 2 bulbs each side in the rear.
They make load resistors for 2 bulb systems, so one of those each side in the rear, and a 1 bulb resistor for each of the front.
And 3157 is correct.

What resistors did you use in the back?

For the rears, you'll need a 3 ohm load resistor for each side, such as this:
http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...-p5679822.html

For the fronts, you'll need a 6 ohm load resistor for each side, such as this:
http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...-p4783296.html

You'll have to mount them to metal, or out in the open so they don't touch anything that can melt, because they get pretty hot.

The fronts won't get tremendously hot, but the rears may since they'll be powered whenever the turn signals, or the brake lights are on.

But its worth it, they are precise, with a nice crisp on and off, as opposed to the slow fade on, fade off of a normal incandescent bulb.
Plus now all 5 of my brake lights turn on at almost the exact same time, as opposed to before how the 3rd brake light would turn on, then the other 4 would fade on.

This is where I mounted mine front and rear:

Ive got my front ones done already... Int he rear it looks like there are 3 wires instead of 2. Which 2 do you splice the resistor into?

I don't remember the color, sorry, it was over a year ago I did mine.
The 3 wires are ground (black wire), park light, and brake/turn light.

The resistor goes to the ground and the brake/turn light. You can use a simple test light probe to figure out which one is the park wire, and which is the brake/turn.

Sorry I don't remember which one exactly.

Drag..... I was thinking of installing LED rear bulbs to lessen battery load, while having LED on during shows - but resistor will just drain the battery anyway

Reviving an old thread. But would these work for adding in the resistance? Plug and play. Or are bulbs available with the right resistance now ?

Ebay has lots of these....
