Supercharger question
Has anyone here had their engine blow up after a supercharger install. Without upping the boost or anything w/everything other than a supercharger installed w/ stock pulley. My old man told me that my engine will blow up with it because his neighbor has a friend that has one and told him the motor can't handle it and would blow up unless I get an aftermarket clutch and flywheel, forged internals, and beef up the rearend. Everything I've read so far says otherwise. I can afford to fix small failures that occur but nothing over $3000 worth. SO I wanna know before I up and get one soon.

Huh? There are very many S/C installs documented on this site running stock pulley and much higher boost levels without problems. I think your old man's-neighbors'-friends'-cousins'-sister's dog is talking out of his or her a$$.

Magnacharger just released a new powertrain warranty that will cover your engine/trans/rear end up to 5 years 100k miles....
The supercharger must remain in stock form (even the front pulley) though. This may help with some peace of mind. |

So since my boost is at 11.5, doesn't apply to me? Atleast I get one with Lingenfelter.

OR the rearend.. ![]() HOWEVER!... that doesnt go to say that its a good idea to beef these up. I cant say much for the camaro (yet), but I had my RSX-s, and I boosted it, put 11 PSI, it was pushing 330 to the wheels. (FWD tho), there wasnt a requirement to beef anything else up, but after time, 330+hp through a stock clutch would burn it out, and it did. I put in a new one, as well as a new flywheel, it just made sense to throw a flywheel in when I had the tranny out. When you start to boost cars, or push them to there limits, you need to think about more than just the power, you need to think about how the rest of the car can handle it. I dont know from personal experience, but I think I saw that you can push the camaros to around 660+ hp before you need to worry about upgrading anything else, first to go would be the axle, and possibly the clutch. |

I've seen a few cars blow up throughout the years running low boost. It wasn't the superchargers fault. It was either fuel or tune related.

I say go for it. Low boost (< 9 lbs) should not blow up a motor. I've had mine for almost a year and absolutely no problems. Sticky tires could definitely cause you to break an axle under spirited driving. I also believe my clutch is not going to last much longer (12,000 miles). My rear tires will need replacing soon too (wonder why
). Do lots of research but I've heard the stock internals are good to at least 750 rwhp. If you take it to the track, the stock clutch will likely not last long. Are any of these over $3k to fix? No.

This is what my neighbor was claiming happened to his friends engine. So I take the tune toasted the motor then?
