Who ever heard of a "low horse" Getting pulled over has nothing to do with court at that particular moment in time. Your are right on at least one thing, suspicion won't hold up in court, but it's the suspicion that could potentially lead the the evidence that will hold up. They just need reasonable suspicion to pull you over is all I'm saying. Not trying to start an argument and this is already off topic from the original post but at the moderator already told you, if you don't agree, get off the topic.

Very cool story. I have a 5 yr old grandson who's face lights up everytime he sees my car. I can just imagine what that little boys face looked like.

Had a LEO pull up next to me a couple weeks ago and proceed to tell me how awesome my car was. THEN proceeds to ask me if I want to race (big smile on his face). When I laughed and told him that probably wouldn't be a good idea he says "yeah you'd probably smoke me anyways" and takes off. Gotta love it!

Reminds me of a holiday traffic safety program I promoted years ago. I asked a local grocery store to donate gift certifcates. The newspaper ran a lead story advising motorsists they could be pulled over for safe driving and rewarded with a gift certifcate. These certificates would be given to drivers who were pulled over for showing courtesy and good driving habits. I recall being warned by supervisors that the traffic stop must be consensual and the driver must immediatly be advised they did nothing wrong and they are free to go. All were obviously elated for being chosen for a safe driver gift certificate.
Legally, a traffic stop is a detention and must be made with probable cause. In the case of the op, it quickly tured into a consensual contact. It had a great outcome but it could have quickly gone sideways had the "wrong" person been stopped.

He did say he was doing 60 in a 55 zone, so actually did has reason to pull him over. Great story, I would have done the same thing and then ask for a Get Out of Jail Free Card from Dad.

I don't mean to be a spoilsport too, but... if he sees another Camaro speeding and doesn't pay it forward, or if one of his fellow officers sees the OP speeding and didn't get the memo, then what? Favoritism has no place in a profession like that, either, and it's not universal either. On the other hand, what if the OP wasn't cool about it - nothing disrespectful or anything, just say the OP drove off after finding out he was pulled over for (let's face it) basically nothing - and the officer singled him out negatively?

It's nice that the OP was cool about this and it was great for the kid obviously, and if the cop had pulled up next to him at a light, rolled down the window and made this request I'd probably be okay with the whole episode, but when he uses his lights and pulls someone over for a favor that crosses a line in my mind as well. Those powers exist for the police for specific reasons, and I think we all deserve to know that they know granting your children birthday wishes isn't one of them, no matter how well-meaning the officer may be. It's also a pretty lousy example for his kids, I think - if it was my kid, I wouldn't want him knowing that the badge means the absolute rule of law to everyone else, but for the badge holder it means bending the rules is okay.

what an awesome story. Kids love this car. Its a very iconic car. I drove past a bus stop in my development one day and the kids started shouting bumblebee it made me laugh because my car is IBM with white stripes. Awesome story jekyll.

BTW who cares if a cops pulls you over just to comment on your car or in this case share a father son moment. I had a cop pull me over to comment on the car it was back when i first got it. It didnt bother me at all. It was one car guy talking to another car guy about something we both have in common CAMARO!

lol at DarkneSS. I'm curious, if this had happened to you, what would you have done?

I'm guessing it would have involved an angry verbal tirade about abuse of power, followed by a forceful request for his name, badge number, and superior officer's phone number, and ended with you filing some sort of complaint with his department.

So, guess what, after all of that, what would you have accomplished? Well, by establishing your alleged superior knowledge of your rights, you will have single-handedly proclaimed to every law enforcement officer that you are an a-hole, and now your every move will be under constant scrutiny. Don't worry, the next time you do get caught doing anything wrong, you can go ahead and be rest-assured that there will be absolutely no chance that you'll ever get off with a warning ever again. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that your next traffic stop will involve an officer inspecting every little thing about your car to make sure he catches EVERY SINGLE violation he can.

In effect, you would have screwed yourself. Good job

To the OP, sorry this thread got jacked. That's cool that you played it smoothly and made that little kid's day/week/month/year It's always good to hear that the Camaro family gives back to the community even when they least expect it

This is a great story and one that you, jekyll, Officer Jonathon and his son will not forget. That was awesome of you to do that and it sounds like you will be a great father someday. Very good on you and thanks for sharing.

As I pulled over the officer gets out of his car and slowly walks up to my drivers door halfway down the car he stops and I see another door open on the squad car with this little head walking around the back of my car and of course im like HUH What the ( thinking to myself midget cop? ) As both of the Gentleman walk up to my window the officer says pardon me im sorry for this but I just picked my Son up from school well I dont know how to say this but today is his 6th birthday and since we saw you back there on I30 we have been following you he wanted to see bumblebee and get his autograph. First thing amazed that comes out of my mouth was YOU SERIOUS then the little kid interupts and says Daddy this isnt BumbleBee this is his brother!!!! Bumblebee has stripes up the hood this is Jackle he didnt make the movie because he is vocal and comes across wrong to people I wanted to laugh so hard however I didnt want to make the little guy feel like I was laughing at him lol I looked over at the little fellow and said Excuse me....Who ? He said jackle..... laughing I replied with well yes it is I suppose it is. The Officer interupts and says im sorry for pulling you over I know its not exactlly the right way to do this but with traffic I didnt know any other way I hope you understand. Of course I said yes its more than ok anything to make his little day and of course he wanted an autograph. After I wrote down my Autograph for him he says Daddy Can I Go for a ride in Jackle ?????? Shocked and not knowing what to say his father says only if "JACKLE" says its ok So of course I said SURE so here we go with a Cop car following behind im giving little jacob a ride for his Birthday. Oh get this as he gets in the car first thing he says is Buckle up I would hate for my
Daddy to pull you over. As we pulled over into the Mall parkinglot just before I get to the dentist the cop or shall I say officer Johnathan walks up and thanks me once again for all of this trouble. I sat there a few minutes laughing as they pulled away running this back through my head thinking to myself Jackle....... what a trip lol

Atleast it made the little guys birthday.

Of course when I signed my name I wrote Jekyll I figured it was my job to correct the little guy before it gets out im Jackle.
" the vocal one who comes across wrong to people " Who me ?

So because the police have that power, regular people ought to just meekly accept when they abuse it (even in a nice way - not to give some hot girl the cop's phone number or racially profile someone etc.), with no recourse? I don't see filing a complaint over this, but what if you calmly tell the officer that you think he was wrong to pull you over for his son's enjoyment and unless he has something legitimately duty-related for you (including writing a ticket for going 60 in a 55 zone), then you'll be driving away? And then the officer and his brethren decide to give you the evil treatment anyway?

This is why LEO's shouldn't be doing stuff like this in the first place. Because it's bound to snowball and risks compromising law enforcement's integrity in the eyes of the public, and that has serious implications for all involved. Just look at the controversy over citizens recording interactions with police for an example.

Anyway I've said my piece, done threadjacking here.
