Black Dust on Exhaust Tips...Running Rich?? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have the Magnaflow 16483 Catback exhaust with the double-rolled tips. They look great when clean but after driving for a week or less the tips accrue black soot/dust that I will always immediately wipe off. Is this normal or is my car running too rich? Current mods are just CAI Inc intake and Magnaflow cat back. I have no aftermarket tune.

I asked a mechanic at my local Chevy dealership and he told me that the Camaro runs rich from the factory and the soot is the result of that.

Put a CNC Throttle Body on there and alot of that goes away.

My Camaro is stock and it has soot in the exhaust too. I clean them weekly....the same time I wipe the brake dust off my wheels.

My tips are the same way even after adding a cai, shroty headers, high flow cats and cat back. I thought these mods would cause a more lean condition but I guess not! From the looks of my tips it's still very rich! I just added a VMax CNC throttle body but the car is stored for the winter so I don't know if it helps. Scott@Bjorn3D how does adding the VMax lean out the A/F mixture?

Where can this throttle body be purchased? I looked online and could not find it for our car.

Also, Mike do you recommend the high flow cat? I am looking for slightly more sound but not ready to go the header route yet.

Search for Mike Norris. Im in the process of getting a VMAX throttle body as well.

it is soot and normal. Yours is likely accumulating more maybe because of the rolled tip..soot can't shoot straight out.
