lol i think he was just playing on the "dip" term. Don't be so serious.

But the actual paint is sprayed. ELPO is short for "electropredisposition" which is a primer that uses an electromagnetic charge to bond the primer to the surface. Similar to how powder coating works if I'm not mistaken.

At any rate, they don't have to do colors in big blocks as many people often think.

And if you don't believe me, look at the pictures.

UCFwoot you are correct in your analysis but that still doesn't solve the problem of too much of the leftover gray thats on the impala! I REPEAT it has been stated that untill that is used up CGM can not start

I don't think it has anything to do with left over paint but more of unfinished orders. They've had plenty of time to kill off the remaining Impala grey orders so I see no reason why they can't switch them over sometime in the next month. I don't really have any idea of how much work is involved but I highly doubt that it takes all that much work to put a different color paint into the robots. They probably just have to clean out all the lines from the previous color and hook up the new paint buckets. People are often scared of robots but this isn't rocket science.

Henry Ford brush painted. Then sanded and buffed out

The first gen Camaro unit bodies were dip primed before they were given final color finish. That is why you see the drain plugs in the floors and trunks. The excess primer had to have a place to run out of the body so it would not puddle up in the low areas. That dip process is long gone for car bodies.

Anyway - lets get on with the thread.

-Mark.

Not dipped.

And OP. I hope you like your black paint. Personally, I don't care about the wait for another month....I'm getting the color I want...not the color that's goign to get me my car a month earlier. I've waited this long...I can wait a little longer.

I believe wOOT is correct. They need to finish their orders for the Impala Gray, and the shut down on the Impala line is not helping matters much. I ordered CGM and am 1st on my dealers list, but they didn't get an allocation in this first consensus. I guess I'm thankful for that.

I'm not sure what I would do if I'm asked to change colors. I wanted yellow to match my 69. If I change it, that messes up the big picture. But it wouldn't be the first time. I guess I would have to switch to red, my wifes first choice.

Speaking from experience, you should get the color and options you first ordered, If you settle for second choice you won't be happy, and a good chance you will be trading it for what you wanted in the first place...
Good luck everyone....

So...we have 2 dealers..1 in Vegas and 1 in NY telling customers that CGM will not be available in the 1st round of orders. this must be the case then..too bad we can't get this verified. If CGM is "delayed"...I would think 1 simple post by the right person could put people at ease... this whole thing makes me wanna

To the OP...unless your situation dictates that you MUST have the car sooner than later (and even then it's questionable), my advice would be to choose the color you love for this car and be done with it. What ever color you choose will be the one you'll be looking at for years to come.

I'm sorry to see your dealer is putting an employee above a customer. My dealer has had to bump two employees off the list due to selling out his allotment to customers. A paying customer is what keeps his door open, not a paid employee.
