Sometimes you feel like you can go on forever but overtraining is a reality so get plenty of rest, support your workouts with good clean food and if you start to feel run down taking a little break can be a good thing.

I agree, but I feel great, I don't feel like I over train, I try to keep my cardio light on the days I don't do my 4 day a week circuits, usually a 2 mile walk with my dog. I think the suppliments I take help, which is fish oil, glutamine, and vitamin C, which is suppose to be great for muscle recovery. I also stand on my feet all day at work and have for years so I'm sure that helps too. thanks for the advice and glad your doing well also CFD!

ugh!! Found out several weeks ago my gyms powerlifting contest was going to be April 16th. Well, I was going to be at C5FII, so I wasn't going to start pushing through my routines, ramping them up to compete. Yesterday, they put the flyer out the contest was moved to April 30th. Now that is only 4 wks of training, definitely not enough to get into Powerlifting mode. But on the bright side, since I thought I was going to miss this meet, I was planning at trip to NC to see my parents... yes, on April 30th. What does it take to catch a break here.

Anyway, still staying strong with my lifts. Pushing 405 lbs on bench for reps and 225 lbs on incline bench for reps. And my partner made me do situps with a 45lb plate on my chest. I hate him this morning.

some of us never get a break , but overcoming obstacles like that is what makes us strong and builds character . I hope you returned the favor with the weighted situps

Well,

CFD I took your advice and stoped checking the scale every day... Sticking to my diet and working in some cardio... Not nearly as much as I'd like.... but more than before.. 30 mins a couple times a week. I'm still seeing steady loss... about 1 pound a week this morning I'm down 11 total... I'd like another 4 by the fest...

I'm starting to get a little pissed.

I dropped 15 pounds in 6 weeks and in the 4 weeks since I haven't lost a single pound, YET I've lost another belt size.............. How the hell does THAT happen?

I have not worked out a single time. Not once. No running, weights, ..... nothing, so no muscle growth to account for the oddity. I'm not sure what the heck is happening.

I've got a few minutes before my workout so I thought I'd post this and see what response I could trigger

Those who watch the scales often loose less fat than those who periodically use it as a tool.

Before everyone says what the heck is he talking about I will explain.

I'm sure most have heard of cortisol, it's a hormone that is very important for our body's to perform efficiently. Rises in cortisol are also very important but only under certain circumstances. Prolonged elevation in cortisol or ecessive rises in cortisol often result in a negative return. It prevents the thyroid gland, amongst other things, from functioning properly . Higher levels in cortisol have been proven to increase belly fat and decrease the body's abillity to burn fat. One of the most influencial increases in cortisol levels is stress. So in theory those who watch the scales from day to day expect to see a constant drop in the numbers, this isn't how it works, they fluctuate with ups and downs but the trend is to go donward if you eat right and exercise. Now when you don't see the numbers go down daily after hard work and eating right you stress out and produce more cortisol preventing your body from loosing the fat, that makes you stress out more and it's a vicious circle. So rather than stress out over this subject I'm getting ready to hit the eliptical to reduce body fat and relieve myself of some said stress.

when u have reached 6000 rpm in first, there is no use of stumping onto the accelerator any more (only if you wanna kill the engine and wanna introduce your pistons and valves to the open daylight), so time to shift up (funny: we all know how to operate strange devices like cars)
i am sure, there are many people out there, who have similar probs but
i am n o t sure, if we should continue this topic in this thread
Well, years ago when I was bodybuilding I could drop to a 29 waist from a 31 and actually gain weight. BUT it was the heavier mass of muscle that accounted for the oddity.

My thing now is not that I stopped losing, but that I stopped losing AND still dropped an inch in my waist. Is my scale broken? How do you get smaller but not lose wieght?

I suppose there are quite a few things that could explain this but here are a couple I can think of,right off we'll rule out the Bonnie theory. Diet can play a big role in discrepencies. One example would be products like dairy or products with gluten. Many body builders will cut out dairy products before competitions because they make you puffy, it's not because of weight gain or loss it's how your body stores them. You could be gaining water weight so in theory you could be loosing fat, thus getting smaller but getting heavier via water retaintion. Then there is this, there are many people who's belly gets bigger so you tend to wear your pants lower giving the impression your waist is smaller but it's not (plumers syndrome).
This is why a lot of times you will hear some of us say the scales lie. Body weight can fluctuate greatly due to physioligical changes so scale readings may not be an accurate way of seeing said changes. Thats why sometimes visual observations are more useful than scale readings.

If this is the case, it's pluasible that I can lose 5 pound 'overnight'. I have wondered in the past why I could not lose a pound for a couple weeks and then all of a sudden drop 6 pounds in 2 days.
