1-3/4 vs 1-7/8's LT's

what is the HP gain difference? i have 1-3/4 Doug Thorley LT's and after my cam install i was told my headers are killing my car (very radical cam), how much of a difference would i see if i swapped over to 1-7/8 LT's?

Not worth enough to switch, maybe 3-4

Depending on our cam spec you could be leaving a significant amount of HP on the table. The 1 3/4 will make power down low but will cost you HP up top. Have you considered selling your DT and getting 1 7/8 or even 2" depending on future mods? Could you post a copy of your dyno sheet?

This test was on an otherwise stock car, so maybe not a good comparison. More data can never hurt, though.

get 1 7/8's and call it a day.. you wont lack for air flow up top and you wont hurt anything down low.. on the smaller engine 5.7 it was more critical for scavenging with the 1 3/4

With a cam things might be a little different but on the stock setup I don't think you're leaving much on the table.

My car put down 411 rwhp with 1 3/4" where most 1 7/8" were putting down 415 rwhp. So a few peak HP.

But the real test comes at the race track and there is a lot more to it than just HP. About a month ago when I was at the track I was racing against another Camaro with basic bolt-ons that put down 415 hp. On the track I was right at a whole second faster mostly because I had suspension work and he didn't. He could'n't get his to stop wheel hopping. My grabbed and went good enough (could be better though). I got three 1.98 60' times in a row with stock tires.

A few HP doesn't mean squat if you can't get it to hook up an go.

Trust me, I've thought about selling mine off and stepping up to the KOOKS stepped headers....but by the time I sell mine off and pay the difference in headers plus having to pay the car to get re-tuned I would be looking at anywhere between $500 - $800 differnce. It's hard for me to justify the price difference to see maybe 10 rwhp. I will be better severved to spend the money towards a gear swap.

IMO....if you don't have any suspension stuff done, spend the money there first. Trailing Arms are a must.....then either the Hotchkis brace and/or some craddle/rearend bushings.

If you have suspension stuff then look at putting that money towards some 3.70 or 4.10 gears.
