I just finished mine a few days ago. Borrowed a lot of ideas from others in this thread. I am happy with the way it came out. I used IOM paint that I ordered from paintscratch.com. I will probably do some other things under the hood in time I just need to kepp looking to see what I like.

okay so ive read through this entire thing and i know its in here somewhere but cant find it right now. I ordered IBM paint but the metallic just wont come through. I have put adhesive promoter, primer, then base coat... havent put clear on yet but do you guys that will make the metallic come through? another question i had was what is the recommended process as far as sanding. This is what i was going to do... sanded in between primers. wet sand with 600 and 800 before first base coat..and before second and third... no sand after final basecoat... then one clear coat, then wet sand with 1500, then final clear coat, then DA polisher... am i supposed to wetsand after the final basecoat?!

Guys
I'm doing a bit of an engine cover project at the moment and I have opted to use Krylon Fusion Gloss black. I have applied several coats (within around 15-20 mins between coats as directed) and even used the Krylon clear (also within 15-20 mins of applying the last coat of black). I was hoping for a high gloss finish but doesn't seem to be turning out that way. In fact about an hour or so after applying each coat of clear I have been left with a hazy finish which can be rubbed of with a duster. So currently I am left with a black engine cover which doesn't have much of a gloss finish to it. I have been thinking of painting over the Krylon with a black enamel paint but I'm not sure it will work - any suggestions on getting a high gloss finish? I bought a custom RS badge for the engine cover which has a high gloss finish so I want the cover to blend in with it if possible. Aluminum mesh bought from Amazon: Custom made RS badge from emblemspro: Aqua Blue LED strips bought from AAC:

For those wanting to know how well the Krylon Fusion paint holds up, Here is my engine cover after 14 months. (Sorry it's a little dusty, I haven"t cleaned under the hood in a while). Also the decals are holding up well.

would you mind walking me through the process you did to paint it. I also used the Fusion paint (Gloss black) but it looks dull in comparison to yours. thanks in advance.

[/QUOTE] Do you have any pics of this installed on the cover? Also if you don't mind, how much did you pay for it? Thanks.

All I did was clean it with soap and water, let it dry, then cleaned it with alcohol, masked it off, sprayed it with Duplicolor adhesion promoter, then sprayed it with the Krylon Fusion, waited 10 minutes and sprayed another coat. No clear coat.
