Dos this look like this LS3.
Like i said it looks like the rods on the LS3 are stretching and failing, Its only powdered metal so its not going to take to much more power to get to there limit. |

Yeah. I was only dyno'ed at 406 wheel though. I didn't think I was even close to the limit. |

And looking at the PTV contact on ALL of his cylinders. I think his failure was a little different than mine. I had a retaining clip failure on a lifter cause mine.
His.. Well like everyone has said..The front cover may hold the answer. |

I am pretty sure he talked to some of the powers that be while in Oshawa, and they said um, well, call Customer Service... and knowing what we know about Customer Service and engine mods... not really worth the fight.

Now, with a blown engine, a dealership MUST notify GM before doing a warranty repair/replacement and they inturn are going to want to know the specifics of the car. With the mods he had, the conversation was short. The issues comes down to, as Mike stated, what if for some reason the failure of the original tranny... that GM righfull warrantied... caused the failure... where does GM stand on that? If the tranny hadn't failed, there is a really good chance the orange bee would still be running today... the plot thickens... ![]() Best guess at this point:
Sure, he should have had a 3 bolt cam but thats only part of it, a small part. Last edited by IROCanSS; 06-21-2011 at 09:01 PM. |

I'm not sure I'm buying that the output shaft breaking would cause a torque surge that would break anything. The engine would cycling freely against very little resistance like it was out of gear...the rev limiter would shut it down if it went too high. I'm guessing tensioner or some other defective or weak stock part...we are all speculating until he gets the front cover off.

Stabing the throttle, even on the most responsive of systems, is going to ease up through the band. Putting it in gear will apply the 'resistance' like in my pencil annalogy. Either the car will move or the tires will spin, or the car will die. Now release that pressure in a milisecond. ALL that violent torque will hit that free spining motor with NO dampering whatsoever. And engine is not made for that. Even on a full clutch dump, either the tires break free, the car moves, both, or the car will die. OR...... something breaks. |

Now take the same car and do a 3K clutch drop, the clutch grabs and for a split second holds then BAM instantly goes to FULL torque. The stresses are WAY MORE than simple revving the engine. I could be wrong... and like has been said, we will never really know... even if the pin is broken. What will be really odd is if the pin is intact. EDIT... like Randy said... only in different terms.
