Me personally it would have to be the manual. No question. My opinion a car like this has to have it. But that is just my opinion. The paddle shifter to me isn't very great. I dont know how it would be in the camaro but the cars i have had it in before it wasn't nothing to brag about.
If you are learning to drive a manual well I have always been told that something with more torque is easier to learn on. I dont really know for sure. I never had driven a manual until I bought my 2000 Z28. I bought it and drove it and that was it. I dont think I would have enjoyed it as much being an automatic but again thats just my opinion. either way its going to be a great car! |

No "Paddles" on the auto...
Fellas - there's no "paddle shift" on the automatic. There are buttons on BACK of the right and BACK of the left hand side of the stearing wheel that you push.
![]() Its NOT like the paddles on a Corvette, Ferrari, Porsche... There are pix posted elsewhere on the forum showing where they are and what they look like. |

and that will be because of the speed rating on the tires

Personally I went with the manual because that is all I have driven and love them. After you get up to speed on how to drive a manual, you will have an easier time making that decision. But like others have said, if you live in really busy area with alot of stop and go, go with the auto.
Both are good options so good luck deciding which is best for you. |

If this is your first manual car I hate to say it but get the auto. 425hp on your first manual car = disaster for the tranny. This is NOT the car to learn a manual.
I dont know your age, but I am assuming your young, I personally would go for the auto, I dont think you will regret it. You will still have the tap shift to play with, although its not exactly the same as a manual experience. Top speed will be around 180+mph but will be electronically limited. Look out for aftermarket chip delimiters which will remove the governor but ensure you get high rated tires. Performance wise, not much in it its a drivers race however, they are saying that the auto comes out just a whisker ahead because of the reaction times with the manual. However, we shall see the test reviews on that one. GOODLUCK!! And dont be a stranger... lets hear from you more!

The aftermarket IMHO is going to tear this car up!!! you will have so many options it won't even be funny!! More so for the LS3 motor I think.

Having an automatic is like having sex and just going through the motions.
Having a manual is like having total control of that sexual experience, and getting every last drop out of what that LS3 has to give. ![]() No really, to stick, or not to stick, is a big question for most. I was brought up on manuals, feels like second nature to me. Plus, my Camaro will be another "toy", driven very little. They are fun!!!!!! |

I taught my son to drive on a 6 speed when he was 16. He prefers a manual now. My clutch (and car) survived. I think that his car would also survive.
One thing to remember is that for the SS models, there is higher horsepower with the manual than the automatic. Not so with the V-6 when they are both the same. At least Camaro (unlike the Challenger and the Pontiac G-8) gives you the 6 speed standard and charges extra for the automatic, which is a much more complicated piece of machinery then a manual transmission. I agree that performance is not a consideration (except for the SS per above). I will probably get a 6 speed, but it is because I am old school and just like going through the gears. |
