No, sorry, I wouldn't be ordering until I had a number on the table.
Most everyone I know looks at their vehicle price as compared to invoice, not MSRP. I ordered my 2012 45th for invoice - dealer's cost. If that means there's a $500 increase in the Camaro over last year, who cares. I know there will also be a premium for the 45th package and since I have a round-about idea what that is, and I'm paying only the dealers cost on the package anyway, it just doesn't matter that much.

What everyone's trying to say is - knowing there will almost certainly be a small price increase - if one needs to know whether that will be a 4% increase or a 7% increase, they probably can't afford the vehicle and should purchase one in a different price bracket.

i would wait until there was a dollar amount for sure, but the thing i find more interesting is so many people in april-july needing the car by december, which is kind of odd you can't wait another couple of months (especially when we expect pricing will be out for 2012s no later than when they are released mid-july).

but then also odd, if you don't have the price, you choose to buy a rival mustang. not that there is anything wrong with a mustang, it's just that i would venture to guess you weren't really sold on the camaro in the first place if your impatience got the best of you

Generally speaking, invoice IS the cost the dealer pays for the car.

Sometimes the manufacturer provides a discount off the invoice price to help the dealer sell the car. This depends on the popularity of the vehicle (I doubt the Camaro gets a discount) as well as supply and demand for that new car. There also is the holdback on the vehicle - a percentage of either the MSRP or invoice price of a new vehicle (depending on the manufacturer) that is repaid to the dealer by the manufacturer, designed to supplement the dealer's cash flow and indirectly reduce "variable sales expenses." The less time the car stays on the lot and costs the dealer (none, really, if you're ordering), the more the holdback results in actual profit. In the graph in that thread, the difference between the "Dealer Invoice" and the "Dealer Price" columns is simply the holdback. Says so at the bottom.

Given that the markup from invoice to MSRP is so much less than it used to be (at least for GM vehicles), I don't worry about trying to squeeze any of these dollars from the dealer. Heck, they have to stay in business and keep people employed, just like any other employer! I know, I know, it's not really how much money they make selling individual vehicles on the sales floor anymore - sheer sales numbers and service visits are more the focus nowdays. But to try to negotiate on the holdback just seems a little over-the-top "cheap" to me. However, kudos to those who are successful at it!

I went through the same thing last year when I ordered my 2011. Was told there could be a 2 percent increase on base prices, turned out 1ss stayed the same and 2ss went up because of the hud. So I would just figure a 2 percent increase and if less great.

I didn't mention anything about trying to buy a camaro at dealer's cost... sorry that it came out wrong. I was trying to point out that you are not buying it at dealer's cost I actually think you got one hell of a deal here! Care to share the info as to which dealership/salesperson you ordered from? because my cousin and I would love to purchase at invoice price! Thanks in advance.

Its possible to get a Camaro for well below "invoice" if you qualify for certain incentives that don't come out of the dealers pocket, like loyalty cash or USAA. All you really have to do is get preferred (i.e. supplier) pricing and then apply one of the additional incentives. Examples of people who qualify for preferred pricing are students, military, employees of GM suppliers, and members of certain credit unions. I got mine for around $700 below "invoice".

How the hell do you know what invoice is when pricing has not been released on the 2012's yet?
