Scott, first off I appreciate your knowledge and insight and look forward to all of your posts like a kid at a candy store much like everyone else in Camaro world. I am glad I don't get a beating or a bunch of suburbans followin...wait whats that out there ..oh nevermind they drove off..Anyway..I am glad that we can have discussions like this because its the Camaro that fuels this passion in all of us. If I'm being a bit of a broken record or thorn in your side its only your car to blame!! .I understand. and don't get me wrong, its the whole automotive industry that has gone to conservative colors. Look at the colors posted in this thread available from other manufacturers to see that colors (or lack thereof) are kind of a lost art these days for vehicles. Maybe its because of restrictions on voc compliant finishes, maybe its just a trend, I don't know. I do know I am not color blind and I appreciate a full "range" of colors to satisfy a personalization perspective, rather than being upset about "my" color not being in the palette. I mean, yes I WANT SGM..but if its not available, I'll probably go Victory red, which is also a color I like, but not my first choice. I won't be a go or no go deciding factor in whether or not I purchase a ZL1, just limits my happiness a little. I guess since much of my time is spent restoring musclecars, I am used to dealing with palettes from the 60's primarily, where a customer had 15 to 20 color choices, with the option of custom choices on an ordered car. Maybe sometime a car manufacturer will see the personalization aspect of color choice other than purely a popularity contest limited to 5 or 6 colors. You yourself stated color choice is subjective not objective, so as a manufacturer, go ahead, have some fun and just have at it and pick some bright colors sujectively, 'cause honestly that is the best way to choose colors. Its not that I don't "like" all the colors offered, its just that lately they seem too limited and conservative, or too long in the tooth to permit personalization. I get the white, black , red, silver. But on the other colors, Live a little. Drop the current yellow and orange , they had a run already and sub in some different colors for a year, then a couple more the next, etc. I get the idea it may not be possible in this day and age of Car manufacturing to allow such personalization,I will be the first to admit, I am not an industry insider, nor do I know all the intricate details of car manufacturing, and I may be barking up a tree with nothing to bark at, but an exciting car like the ZL1 deserves at least one special mind blowingly bright color. The new Charcoal is kind of the idea, but I think a bright dazzling color would have been more appropriate IMHO. The charcoal is more Caddy than Camaro.

For most of us on Camaro5 the Camaro is a passionate avocation that for many evokes feelings of the days of our youth when anything seemed possible, and a lot of things were, in fact, possible. Accordingly, we'd like to have the types and number of choices with respect to the Camaro that were available then available to us now.
However, we should remember that it is a very different world today, and that the Camaro for Chevrolet and GM is not an avocation but a vocation. GM is a for profit business that needs to earn a decent return for its shareholders, and, therefore, must make trades off with respect to many things, among which are the number and types of colors offered for the Camaro. For GM, painting a Camaro a given color is not just a matter of mixing some paint, putting the vehicle in a paint booth, and pulling the trigger on the sprayer. However, from some of the comments I've read on Camaro5, it would appear that some believe that it's almost that simple. If color is truly that important to an individual, one can always spend the money to have one's Camaro painted the special color that one desires.

Unfortunately It is cost prohibitive to re-paint properly. Its tacky and I could`easily tell its been done, therefore de-valuing the car by the amount spent plus the amount to return it to original color.
To repaint properly, the car would need to be reduced to a shell, chemically stripped, re-finished and reassembled with new fasteners, hardware and sealers. While not impossible, Its `just not worth it. The actual cost of materials and labor to paint is insignificant, Its just all the other labour involved. |

I can attest to the quality of the Berger paint job, but the engine bay is still black (the original color). Everything else looks factory or better. I think it was about $6,000 - $8,000 or so as well, so not cheap.

Its interesting that on the color specific threads on the main forum, The Synergy green has 51 pages of posts, where even Victory Red (also a good color) has only 17.
Mebbee Green isn't so unpopular afterall....hint hint...lol |
