Quick question: Does it have to be another GM/Chevy dealer or could it be any dealer??

I believe it has to go to another Chevy dealer because the PDI still has to be completed.

You pay the tax based on where you live. I don't know exactly how it works though; sorry.

The state is going to expect the New York dealer to charge sales tax based on the price the dealer charges IN New York. You'll pay New York state sales tax but tag and title fees will be from your home state.

Basicaly if the money from the sale profits a New York dealer then they have to charge sales tax and forward it to the local taxing associations minus a service fee (ie. shipping delivery and such.)

I don't think so. I had a friend buy a full-blown motorhome in Charlotte by the Lowes Motor Speedway and he was complaining about the $14,000 in sales tax he would have to pay when he got back to Wisconsin.

Like I said above, I don't think this is the case but the local sales tax is 8.75%

I don't know I live in Alabama but I own a business so I know how the taxing of sales and service works for interstate deals. It also goes county to county. Some places are different in some cases but it's usually standard with state to state. You shouldn't have to pay sales tax from the receiving dealer because it's not 'goods' you're buying but service for them to PDI the car and receive the car.

I just wiki'd it and it says you pay sales tax per the registering state. I can't say that's 100% positive because I've never done it. That is however what I believe to be true.

Yeah you are correct. I just called a Oregon dealer because they have NO sales tax. They said I would have to pay California taxes. Well NY and California have pretty much the same sales tax so it would be all about how much it would cost to get it here.

Wow, so the dealer who sells the car to be shipped has to send the sales tax to another state?

Or do they just not charge it and the other dealer charges it based on the invoice?

What a pain in the ass. lol

Ok then, sorry guys.
