Don't do it. Although the allure of driving a hot car on campus to gather the attention of hot chicks is there, it will get dinged, beat up, scratched, and pretty much abused.

However, if you don't plan on keeping that car forever, and can live with some blemishes, by all means take it. But I would advise you to keep it home. That way you have something else to look forward to when you go home during breaks!

I attend LSU-Shreveport. I say take it, but do not drive it around campus or anything, take the bus. Many stupid people out there especially in Baton Rouge. But enjoy college, you are going to love it. Stay focused

Goodluck..

I got the answers I am in college and in AZ. People here are pretty respectful about cars. No problems at my college yet, just make sure you are parked properly and you don't get in a too overly crowded area and you should be fine.

I went to LSU. Graduated in 2008 before I had my Camaro. Went back to grad school for a couple semesters when I had my Camaro, so I have some pretty decent insight on this.

If you're going to live in the dorms, absolutely do not do it. Dorm parking is horrible. You will never be able to choose a "safe" spot. You can only take what is there, and hope there is something there, period. If you live on the east side of campus and you leave in the middle of the day, you may have to park on the west side of campus when you get back. In the evening, it's not as bad.

If you commute, you can pick safe spots if you don't mind walking ~10-20 minutes to get to class (depending on where your classes are, of course). The back of the lot by CEBA/Patrick F. Taylor hall is good. You can pick a corner spot where there's nothing on your passenger side and only a passenger door on your driver's side, and even then, you can park far enough over where that door could never hit your car. If you don't like parking far away, you're in trouble. The parking spots are a pretty tight squeeze. You will probably get dings and scratches unless you park far back and walk.

Don't let anyone scare you off with vandalism unless you're a d**k and/or prone to making enemies. It's LSU. There's muscle cars everywhere. Your Camaro isn't special on campus - there's tons of 'em, along with lots of Mustangs and Challengers.

By the way, good choice. I loved LSU. I miss it a lot.

Take the Camaro.
My son is at LSU now, he works there and graduated in 2003.
He was out of state student so, like you will pay double tuition, BUT if after your first year you have high enough grades they wave the extra and tuition is around $2600 a semester (plus fees of course).
He lived off campus all 4 years, had a new Accord Coupe that never got a dent.
Have your parents look into buying a house, sell it after graduation instead of wasteing 4 years of rent (Baton Rouge houses have great resale, ever since 1/2 of New Orleans moved there a few years back). Our house there GAINED 20%, but my son works for LSU now and we sold it to him at a big discount.
Just down there at Thanksgiving, gridlock everywhere, watch out for white SUV's, they don't look for low cars, actually only saw 2 new Camaro's in a week.
AND they seem to at least be in the running for BCS title every other year.

Your first year at college, the last thing you're gonna care about is your ride.. leave it at home till you live off campus sophomore year. UofA and ASU will have you covered anywhere you need to go. Dated a girl that went to LSU when I was attending CalPoly SLO and she went 5 years without a car. That being said... I personally was never without my ride. haha

Save yourself all the trouble and bring your Camaro to the University of Arkansas

That being said I had a brand new Silverado custom when I was a freshman in college. I never had issues and no one ever banged it up, but I did see a lot of idiot accidents.... I couldn't imagine going to college without my car, personally, but it's really your call!

My car is parked in 2 places at any given time.

1) The front of my house
2) The parking garage at the University of Texas at El Paso (mostly student parking and some professors).

How many times has my car gotten damaged at school: 0
Take the car. Don't live in fear its not as bad as people make it to be. As long as you park in a decent place itll be fine.
