buy now or wait... need some advice.

I am normally without issue on making decisions about purchasing a vehicle... but I am at a stand still with myself...

a few months ago I gave my local allocation to a customer of mine under the condition that we could use the car as a development vehicle... he was more than happy to receive the free parts!! Figuring the first year of anything always has it's problems, I would then wait until the '11my to purchase a driver for myself. from that day until 2:00PM on friday... I thought nothing about buying a first year car.

Fast forward to friday... Long story short... another local dealer has a car inbound... and the buyer has found himself on some real bad financial times. Truly a sad story. The dealer is not in best shape himself. I have been given the option to purchase the car outright if I repay the deposit lost by original customer. since that point... I have not been sleeping or eating correctly!

what is crazy...is the fact I have already been through the 93/98 camaro deal and the 04 GTO deal...and have vowed that I will "never" do it again.... I should not even be thinking about this....but I can't stop!

What happened with the '98? My advice? Buy it and then trade it in for the 2011 car. Because the car is a 2010 model, you will not lose as much depreciation as you normally would provided you keep the miles down.

I don't agree with this at all. The first year for a new car is the greatest loss on its value. Doesn't matter the car, it is a fact. If you buy a 10 then trade to buy an 11 you will loose some thousands of dollars, I promise.

historically...that is correct. And I cannot see a reason why it would be any different for the 5th gen. I will not go through the trade deal... I know that I will regret buying the car...

Talked to another dealer this morning...they also have a customer that dropped his deposit.

hopefully the may 6th deal will help some of these dealers out...though I don't see it.

i was at a similar stand still, but i came to a compromise. i will wait till around Dec time. This way people will have their camaros for 6 months or more and will have put a decent amount of miles on them already so will be able to see if there are any problems. Also im hoping by that time GM will unveil details for the plans for 2011 model. So based on this information, i will make the decision to buy 2010 or wait for the 2011.

Historically 93, and 98 were pretty bad and those year Camaros are worthless nowadays. The 2nd poster was dead wrong, first year will lose tons of value especially with all of the recalls and problems it will have that 2011 will improve upon.

There are already a few CTF cars with over 100,000 miles on them. The price difference between a '98 and a '99 Camaro is negligible. You will not lose a ton of money by trading in a 2010 Camaro in the year 2010.

Quality Control seems to be top-notch this time around. Plus, you'll have the new Camaro

what i hear from most people is never buy the first year. this is when they are going to work out all the small problems and down the line they might add better things to it. plus as time goes on it will get little bit cheaper. but if your in a rush then buy it.

What is really important is the Quality Control and amount of time investing during the experimental stages to work out as many kinks as they can. Based on what I've read about the lengths that Gm has taken to make sure this car is a success, It'll have minimal problems, as everything is not completely new. Both engine options are already proven, so I wouldn't expect much besides maybe a faulty sensor or stuck thermostat. Fit and finish should be ok. I think the major improvements they may make for the '11 is probably visibility.
they also might make a few things standard like halo lights.

I owned a first year production Mazda3 back in '04 and I only had 1 problem and that was a stuck thermostat. My '07 speed has more problems than the first year production model, mostly with the new engine.
I'm going to do what a previous poster said and that is to wait till around december and see where I want to go, plus it'll give me a chance to pay off a few credit cards before then as well.

To be honest, I would buy it now. You will have one of the first thousand camaros and the first model year of the 5th gen. Only difference between now and '11 that we know is convertible and HUD. Is that really a make or break deal for you? By '11 everyone could have a Camaro and yours will be nothing special! I would take it. Just me.

You know, the fact is if you want the car, then buy it. I can not believe there is not another buyer out there and I know I do not care much for buyer's remorse. I think that if they backed off $500 then will they back off more? Just how bad off are they?

You might be able to find a buyer here if you could tell us the details. I haven't ordered yet because I am waiting as well, but if the right deal came around for the right car (2SS LS3) I could be convinced as well. Basically, I am holding out for 1) HUD and 2) Z28....

Hud i could do without, Z28 I would trade back in for.
