Hmm remember that oil change discussion?
Hey guys
I remember there was a debate on here about oils and how long people should actually wait to change their motor oil. I ran into this just now and wanted to share with you all. http://autos.yahoo.com/news/driving-...u-need-to.html Now I'm not a petro engineer, nor am I a mechanical or automotive engineer so I will not try to say its good or bad. But this month I waited til my car kept bugging me for oil (5% on the DIC) before changed it. I mostly do freeway driving and I rarely push my car over 4 kRPMs. I usually cruise at about 1.5-2 kRPMs. My oil still looked clean coming out. It was not like fresh-out-the-bottle-clean but it wasn't that bad at all. Either way enjoy!

I don't care what my DIC says, I know that its cheaper to change the oil than replacing parts in the engine. I change mine around 6,000 miles and then I feel its gone too long.

I did my first oil change and rear diff fluid swap yesterday at 2,575 miles on my '12 SS. I felt I had gone too long. I would rather "throw my $$ away" ($75 for both oil filter and 1qt of rear diff fluid) than to have my engine pop right out of warranty. It's inexpensive insurance!

Is there a reason why the rear diff fuel needs to be changed that quick??

I had my diff fliud and oil changed after the first 1500 miles, against the advice of my service writer. When I picked up the car, the service writer told me even the mechanic was surprised at how much debris there was in the differential fluid. I'm so glad I listened to those that had their Camaro fluids changed prior to me getting mine.

4500 to 5500 miles on an oil change is nice and safe for folks driving hard or spirited around the road
yes there are some crazy folks that run their oils to 10,000 miles, those guys usually use AMSOIL Signature Series 5W30 |

The manual states somewhere that if you are going to drive your car competitively or hard then change the rear diff at the first oil change. I just read it and can't find where it is in the manual.

While I love Amsoil and IMHO it is second to none, it does not take Amsoil to go the length of the OLM. Regular Mobil 1 can do it with ease even with 13,504 miles on the oil. I have the proof from Blackstone Labs which I will post up tomorrow with a narrative.

I believe in its capabilities from personal use with oil analysis reports backing up my OCI's. Besides, I know more than most cut and paste Amsoil dealers which are at least 95% of them.
