While driving from Cali to Virginia had a guy around his 40s ask if it was a Charger... 2 17ish girls laughed at him and said "If you can't tell that's a Camaro you need to stop smoking so much pot!" I just smiled and walked away. It's some people, no matter the age. If they know cars, they'll call it a Camaro, if they don't then to them, it's a Datsun...

Most people nowadays don't even know what a Datsun is. I am 700 years old so I do!

Honestly, you should not let it bother you. Not everyone is into cars and their comments does not change the way we feel about our baby's.

A friend of mine's son has to put his toyota truck in the shop because he hit a deer, she ask me (joking) if he could "borrow" my '67 "mustang" while his was being repaired. I told her sure, he could drive any mustang I owned, not just the '67. She then ask me how many mustangs I owned to which I told her "none"....

I would have taken, nice car, out of that conversation. Just say thanks and let it be. Not everyone knows cars like us and just want to give you a compliment and "seem like" they know what they are saying.

From the unrelated, but similar file....

Shortly after I bought my 2002 Maxima, I had people coming up to me asking if I had just bought a new ALTIMA, even though the two cars were markedly different in size and appearance.

I shared this to say the issue is not limited to domestic ponycars. However, I would like to introduce those who do so to a great eye doctor in my neck of the woods....
