Is there anything that can be done to grab air under the car and direct up to the filter through this big opening?

That pic is actually a bit misleading. That was before I put the wheel well liner back in place. That's why it looks like there's that huge gap. Once it's snapped back in, it looks more like this

Gotcha, thanks. I was thinking if the whole is that big, lets design a scoop that draws air that way.

is it just me, or does it appear that the plastic piece in this picture appears to only be some sort of guard, like it's guarding the area behind the headlight from water or something?

The center definately pushes up air for the a/c condenser and radiator, the ends may be for rain or just a blackout in back of the lower grille.

It looks like this without it.

i mean the scoop only dyno'd another 5hp on top of a cold air intake, and who knows how much that was the scoop and how much was just the difference in 2 dyno results...so even 1 or 2 more hp from cutting/drilling holes makes me less interested in the ~$200 scoop/relo purchase.
Where's the $200 scoop? Apex sells the scoop and the washer bottle relocate kit together with shipping included for around $135.

i was actually referring to the part just to the left of the headlight. that piece doesn't appear to do anything except block off that opening.

meh, whatever. still seems like a lot. the only dyno results i've seen show like 5rwhp, which could have easily been partially attributed to just multiple runs. i don't doubt it provides SOME benefit (hence why i posted this), but i believe you could get similar results for free kind of like what paul did.

I think that is it's sole purpose, there are some wires right behind it.

yeah, we are talking about the same part. hrmmm, that really makes me wonder if GM really didn't want water going through there...

The dyno is a great tool but it is not perfect. Sitting on a dyno there is very little air flow over the car, even with a wind machine you are very limited, so a dyno does not give you a snap shot of the real world gains of something like a scoop. All I can say for sure is that it is enough of a gain that it is noticeable.

Car pulls much harder now, and sounds different too...

So I definitely recommend it!

true, though IF the dyno results are even close to real life results, there is no way people can actually feel the scoop more than the CAI. we are talking 15hp in the CAI vs. 5hp in the scoop on dyno tests. so in the real world the scoop would have to be doing at least 20hp in order for people to "feel" it more than the CAI...which i'm sure is not realistic.

Not sure which does more, but they are a good combo At highway speeds, and even on the streets, that scoop is force feeding a lot of fresh air into the filter.
