Why is everyone trying to shut down the information flow. What happened to the freedom of information act?

As I have said before: if they would tell us what is going on it would stop all this speculation and frustration.

Thanks KK for everything you did for us!

KK,
You did a hell of a service for the owners.
Thanks for all the hard work.

It sucks that you guys won't be able to track your cars.

I don't get it either. Why don't TPTB (the powers that be) want the customers to know ANYTHING?
It's almost like they're thumbing their noses at the same people they're begging to help them survive.

This could have, and should have, been handled in a MUCH better way.

Thank you all for your comments. I am just as upset over this as you all are. It was the highlight of my day to track the VINs and provide the spreadsheet back to you. It made waiting on my car so much easier.

All we can hope is that GM will learn from this experience and improve it for future cars. Maybe someone from GM will read this and give me permission to start tracking the VINs for you again...

I don't think we'll see that happen.
They shut everything down for the final year or so of the 4th gen F-bodies, they shut everything down for the Solstice, and now they're doing it for the Camaro as well.

I just don't understand why GM doesn't want it's CUSTOMERS to know what's going on with their orders/cars.

Thanks KK for all the great info. Sad to say just as mine was to start moving it get shut down...If our dealer calls DBC or gives us the railcar number can we still as individuals do our tracking? And if so could you refresh us on how to go about doing that. Thanks again and good luck with your car...Its coming....

They are called reporting marks. Basically they are painted on the side of the car and tell what railroad company owns the car. SP = Southern Pacific, CNA is Canadian National, etc....

Well you could track your own before the Union Pacific took their site down last week. Technically I might be able to track railcars, just not VIN numbers but its not something I want to risk right now. Wish I could help. You could still try calling the railroads..... All they can say is NO.
