Richard Hibbard Chevrolet will remain open. I just got an email from them.
"Richard Hibbard Chevrolet first opened its doors in 1982. With all that has been going on with the economy we wanted to let our valued customers and long time friends know that we are here to stay! Our doors will continue to be open to provide the best customer service possible. Thank You all for your support." 191 S Indian Hill Blvd. Claremont, CA 91711 (909) 480-4095 They are selling at MSRP, it's where I got my Camaro.

I can't speak for Wisconsin, but in most other states, your comment is wrong. If it were that easy, we'd have gotten rid of a few bad apples a long time ago. Example: Dealer in New York -- I had him written up a THIRD TIME for warranty fraud for well over a million dollars -- the THIRD TIME - and under state laws could not terminate him! |

wow -- have not had a chance to read thru threads in the past couple of days but went to this one -- and I see that there are LOTS of opinions - not a lot of facts.
For those who believe that GM should have fought the unions, I ask you to go back to the summer of 1998 -- and look at what happened to the economy when the UAW struck GM -- ..........the white house got involved! GM IS to blame for many things -- HOWEVER -- as is with everything in this life, nothing is simple. It would take a week of 3 hour episodes just to explain HOW the big three got into this mess over the past 25 years...... LEt me suggest that everyone consider this book -- and don't let the title throw you off -- you could substitute "Chrysler" or "Ford" in some respects...... "Why GM Matters" - by Wm. Holstein -- ........for those of you who believe buying an "American Toyota" helps - go read this book. For those of you who have not heard what "yen manipulation' is -- or how it impacts America -- go read this book. To the fellow who purchased two TrailBlazers and a Camaro SS - I am very grateful for your loyalty. When you are ready to buy a new car - please contact me. Remind me of this post, please. We can point fingers 'til the cows come home. the question is: WHAT do we do to save our country? ....to ensure we remain a world power? -- to ensure we regain our standard of living??? I can tell you this: Great wealth cannot be generated by the Banking Industry or the Service Industry -- we need manufacturing and innovation....... |

Too often I hear people who, after their experience with a 1987 whatever, haven't even steped foot in an American car company showroom. When is GM going to quit blaming them and start accepting responsibility? When is GM going to get tough? Seriously. I love the product but your advertising and PR downright sucks. It has for years, and GM has no one to blame but themselves. GM ads should be creative, sharp, and showcase the PRODUCT. The only ad that meets these criteria are the ads for the Cadillac CTS ("when you turn your car on, does it return the favor?")...... You do not ever - EVER - hear a Honda ad for an Accord scream "hey, 299 a month for a loaded Accord" like you do for every Chevy. Every Accord ad I see showcases the "sensibility", "value", and "quality" of the product..... PRODUCT!!!!! I can't scream it loud enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I see for the Malibu is "299 a month screamin deal at your Chevy dealer whooooohoooo" with fast paced music behind it. I obviously understand advertising budget is strained now, but it was like this when the times were good. I always thought GM advertising didn't show the real product, with the exceptions of specialty or niche cars....... I still remember the 1993 Camaro ads when the 4th gen first came out and the two 10 year old or so kids were guessing cars by their bedroom window at night by the sounds of the engine and when the Camaro came by, the one kid goes "a 275 horesepower, 5.7 liter, fuel injected 6 speed Chevrolet Camaro Z28!" I know you can't do stuff like that for a Malibu, but quit advertising on price alone. It's cheap, chintzy, screams bad taste, and give people the idea that GM just sells on price alone. Now is the time to change American's attitudes. And telling them they need to buy American for the sake of buying American is NOT going to do it. I'm sorry, but you need to dig deeper and get to the heart of the matter. Product. Not ideals. All the ideals in the world and a dollar buys you a cup of coffee at McDonald's. And that is not going to change. You can either lament that fact and pitty yourself and GM because people aren't "buy American, save American jobs" which is going to fall on deaf ears or you can fight back and scream the right way - "We make the best products..... yeah, we didn't before, and that hurt you, our customer, in ways we never realized untill just recently. But now we have completely transformed how we engineer and build a car, and you are doing yourself a disservice by not trying one of our fine products out. Take a drive in a new Malibu 4 cylinder with the 6 speed transmission. Open and close the doors a few times to hear the solid and soft "whomph" of a well built car. Or check out the technology of our 24 valve, DOHC, variable valve timing, direct inject V6 available on the Camaro and CTS." People LOVE buzz words and techno babble even if they haven't the slightest idea what it means...... that's why people know VTEC, but they haven't a clue what it does. They just know Honda has VTEC, therefore it must be better than the GM whatever V6. They don't know!!!!! Please think about that Scott. |

Hello Scott !
Shinzon here I am the crybaby who owns the Camaros and Trailblazers. I have been a avid supporter of all GM products for a long time....even my dad whose caprice classic stations wagons were a staple of my family. In the last years I have own and bought new: 1) 2000 Z28 2)2003 Avalanche 3) 2004 GTO bought right before the price collapse(after someone smashed my z ) 4) 2005 Trailblazer 5) 2007 Trailblazer 6) My Camaro SS - used at local chevy dealer That is a lot of GM in my life. I am now in the market for a new GM car for my family and business, So I am looking at the Tahoe and Traverse or Sporty G8 before Pontiac dies. I used to get Supplier pricing and GM points, but since the GM in your driveway doesn't accept GM Card points any longer, I may lose my ability to use my hard earned 2000$ in points. And the GMIDY program ended. When discussing GM value and why buy American, I mentioned Resale as a point. Here I am on a 2005 TB that I would like to trade in but the value isn't where it should be. So I know cars depreciate but a 2005 TB with 55kmi should lose that much value. Makes me sad b/c I have 2. I am frustrated with GM, because I supported them in every way shape and form , from buying for Me, My Wife, and My Business as well as using the GM card for the last 10years. I have proven my loyalty to the General, as for a dedicated owner of GM products, I feel very let down that there are no special rebates / rates for continuing owners like myself. I was sad when St. Therese got the wrecking ball and when the TB plant in Moriane OH shut it's doors. I am looking to buy another GM product but I am looking at the resale values of GM vs. Toyota and Honda. It isn't all about power for me anymore as I have children and need to look at long term value etc. I don't know what is the right choice any longer, before I just knew It was GM, now I am uncertain. Thank you for taking the time with your Average Family Guy American, Respect for your efforts, but uncertainty for GM and The US middle class families.

Fastball, your analysis was perfect. PERFECT.
shinzon, I think I lot of people feel like you do. GM is making some good cars now but in a lot of respects it may be too little too late. The Camaro is just a niche car, it can't and won't sell cars. They need cars that compete with Honda and Toyota to step it up and they need to advertise dependability. The best way to do this right from the beginning is like fastball and others on this site as suggested...admit they made mistakes in the past(and present with the bailout) and show how they are righting those mistakes. Make people WANT to support GM, don't just expect it to happen because it's not going to. |

Well I have never owned anything other than a GM car.I have owned my LS6 Chevelle for over 10 years and my Camaro for almost as long.American cars are #1 in my opinion but there was a time when quality and reliability suffered due to new EPA laws in the 1970s.I feel that the imports may have had a jump on us back then.Unfortunately I see another bad moon on the rise for the automotive sector with new laws in place for 2016.I just hope that GM as well as Chrysler and Ford are better prepared this time around. For all we know the future may never see another 400+hp Camaro again after 2016....

Canadian Dealer shutdown list comes out later today, expect to close approx. 300+ putting 13,000 people out of work. This is the "wake-up" call I was referring to in the "MY STORY" thread, that was posted in this section.
