If they didn't, they have nothing to worry about. "I have taken the liberty of copying the entire Camaro5 thread concerning a Dealer markup added to an existing Camaro 2SS order, when MSRP was agreed upon at the time of placement, and forwarded it to GM Marketing, as I have suggested all other members do. If you did what is being posted about on the Camaro5 website, I hope GM pulls your franchise before close of business." LabRat (yeah, bait and switch pi55es me off) |

Hi Everyone,
First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you who have entered this thread to offer support, advise, and in general a way for me to vent what has happened to me and my Camaro order at Putnam Chevrolet, Cadillac and Hummer in Burlingame California. As most of you are aware, I pre-ordered a Black on Black 1SS on 18 October 2008 with a deposit of $1000. The transaction was handled by Mr. Ed Cerepak, who i don't hold any ill feelings against (he is the one person who has treated me fairly through out the entire event). I have a work bench order number, a receipt on which is written for MSRP that was signed and dated by Ed. Remember at this time the MSRP was still not official by Chevrolet, so no firm number was assigned. Over the next seven months I was kept informed about the progress of my car, and was happy to hear that the car had arrived yesterday 5-21-09. I was not informed at this time that any changes to my order had occured. Upon arrival, I was brought into the sales managers office to speak to Mike Ng. Once the figures were worked out, I was told that my SS was the first one the dealer has received. Due to the fact that it is a "hot car" the dealership would need more from me to complete the transaction. I was also told that the car had only an $800 mark up for the dealer profit at MSRP. Long and short of it was I wouldn't budge on my agreed upon price of MSRP, and they would not honor MSRP. I waited until today to see if they would change their minds. I called this morning to speak to Ed. He was still working on it, and would get back to me. I let him know that this thread was going on, and that maybe if the manager saw what was going on here (thanks again to all of you), it would show them that their response to me had some bearing on potential future sales/customers. Here is the funny part. Ed called me back at lunch, and said he is still hopeful..give him a little more time. within 2 minutes I got a text message "Car is sold no test drives grats". I responded "sold to me"? and received "They are parking it till you show to pick it up". Little did I know that this was not from Ed, but a very helpful member here (it's all good...was my mistake with the phone numbers). Arriving at Putnam, I see my car out front and two gentlemen getting out of it. (Remember this was still my sold order, not their demonstration car). I had a family member go over to the car while I looked for Ed. He was surprised to see me (now I know why), and brought me into the dealership. Mr. Ng worked out the figures and then showed them to me $3K over MSRP. I told him I thought we had a deal for MSRP and stated that this was a no go. He went to speak to his boss, came back and asked for my card to return my deposit, they were not going to go through with the deal. All monies were then credited and I was basically shown the door. I found out the two guys driving my car had given it a very spirited drive, and that they were possibly interested in buying for over $5k over sticker. (unable to confirm this fact, but pretty good speculation given the conversation that was overheard). So I guess that the managers thought that they had/or will have a better offer for my car, and left me to pound sand. Not Gunshots, brawls, stabbings, or shouting occured, just the feeling like I have been bent over and given the treatment.![]() This experience has left me with a very bad taste in my mouth, and I only hope that it helps others avoid the disappointment I am feeling. I would not purchase from any dealer that chooses when or if they will honor their word or the words of their agent acting on their behalf, when the mood strikes them. Again thanks to all of you. I am working on my options available to me. Mindz Thank you! |

Dude,
You are truly an Adult. A lot of people would have gone postal in that situation. Here's hoping you find a better deal from another dealer. I'm just about to cancel my order with this dealer. (PS - I'm still waiting for a response from the other poster who says the dealer is not liable for breaching a written, signed contract -- what law allows them to do this? It certainly isn't the usual contract law.) |

I just sent them an email and let them know how dishonorable this is. I hope GM kicks them to the crub, they give GM a bad name.

These extortionist dealers are just plain crooks! We should hire a Camaro5 "enforcer" to start breaking some kneecaps!

This S#@T with these Stealerships has to STOP!
Everytime I read about these Bastards doing this to people picking up their cars makes me want to...well I'll get banned if I say it, but I'm ready to..., well I don't want to get banned.....
I'm emailing Putnam . We gotta have a plan for our fellow Camaro5 folks. Any ideas besides flooding the bastards with emails?

I don't think I would handle that as civil as the OP has. It really sucks that GM has created this whole pre-order saga, then when the dealers who represent their product turn it into a stress and fear-induced nightmare, they claim they can't touch them or discipline them. Shame. I'd like to see what would happen if the distribution network for my company starting treating building contractors like crap. That branch wouldn't last long.

Thanks for the update Saving41. I would imagine this is disheartening for you. Hopefully there will still somehow end up being a great new Camaro in your near future.

An email is a good start...Just remember to keep it professional...It will have a bigger impact that way. I sent mine...
We may not be able to save this car, but at least let the dealership know that they can not get away with not honoring a contract without a lot of bad PR! |
