bad clutch mistake
Hello,
Did something really STUPID. I was at a busy intersection and here came my little gap. However, somehow I got all $%&#-up and really reved it, almost 4,000 and didn't disengage the clutch completely. So,... here comes the horrible smell of: damn, you suck man!!! At the next stop light, I engaged the clutch and revved the engine to help cool down the flywheel, but the smell lingered all day. Here is my question though, call me paranoid, but the car seems to shudder very slightly when I start off in 1st gear barely above 1,000RPM. Starts very smoothly if I am at 1,500RPM. Is it just me being paranoid and the car always did this? Or did I burn my clutch? The shudder feeling I remember from before, just not sure if it used to happen if I engage around 700RPM, because the car idles around 500RPM. Sorry long story. How much gas do you usually give it in heavy slow traffic in first gear? Up to how many RPMs? Thanks. |

I think most of us have done this at least once.

I tend to give it more gas and shift around 3000 RPM's. seems to shift smoother.

Hey we all get brain fade. It should be fine. A couple of nights ago I was on my way home, and didn't have the clutch fully in, and ground a pound of third gear. Oops....

The engine has so much torque that you can start out barely touching the throttle. You don't have to rev to go. Not in heavy traffic, but sometimes I start out in second for the fun of it.

Dont worry about it man I have done it twice
. One time I was being stupid and the other time I was on my way to a car show and I was at the top of a hill with a Hennessy car behind me, I was like there's no way I'm rolling back in to the front of that thing so I gave it a lot of gas and bearly let off the clutch to move forward.... then came the smell ..... Lol the car still seems to run fine.

I live around DC and I've found if you let the clutch out really slow you really don't have to get on the gas in slow traffic. I basically had to teach myself how to drive in the daily stop and go traffic. I was sweating bullets the first few weeks of owning it because I was afraid to stall it in middle of traffic.

How does revving the engine with the clutch pressed in cool off the flywheel?

Don't worry about it, the slightest slip on the clutch results in a burnt smell. It will go away.
