Not quite... not to bash the OPs car or his times given the DA, but even still it should be trapping much higher than that. 425 rwhp in a 3000 lbs car would be mid 120s with the right gearing. 600 rwhp (same as a GT500) weighing in 200 lbs more than a GT500 yet it traps 7 mph less than most that have run in similar summer conditions? My very mild H/C/I GTO (can't even hear it cam) with shorty headers and exhaust has been 116 on a 2600 DA day blowing through the clutch up top. There is something being lost somewhere, Id be really curious to see a datalog of the run and record knock retard and a/f ratio. Dyno tunes dont always equal a good street/track tune. |

It seems you're way down on power due to the heat soaking...might want to work on that next. My 499 RWHP SS traps higher mph.
I'd expect high 120's from 600rwhp...maybe even knocking on the door to 130.

Hey, move your IAT sensor to inside the cold air box. I bet that lowers your ET's just from that right there.

So has anybody documented timing being pulled at hi temperatures? I know Ted Jannetty is working on this. it would be great to know accurately how much power is being lost in 100+ degree temperatures like here in Louisiana which is most of the year. I would use that baseline to begin mods..

I have been wondering about the trap speeds on all ZL1s. They just seem low for a 580HP car. I must have under estimated the HP on my cars. (Funny as most people over estimate.) My 94 Mustang GT on the scale at the track weighed 3400 pounds with me and a quarter tank of gas. It would trap consistently @ 120 Mph and I estimated 400 crank HP at the time. Guess that number was low. (Must have been closer to 450 rwhp) That was with a centrifugal supercharger @ 6PSI on a mild pushrod Ford 302. Car ran high twelves on a radial tire spinning through 3 gears.
I dyno'd the next motor for the same car and it made crank 670 HP (666.7 to be honest and that was on a 100+ degree humid FL day.) So around 550 rwhp. Car would push high 130 Mph and on a good air day it was right at 140 Mph trap speeds. The car ran a 10.20 with a crappy 1.8 60ft. (If I left too hard it would go to the back bumper on the slicks.) I was always told 100 Lbs = a tenth So a ZL1 weighs about 4400 with driver? With 600 rwhp I would figure it should run a 120 Mph trap and a 11.1 - 11.5 second et. So the numbers I guess are not that far off. Just wonder why the modded SS cars are turning some much higher numbers for the same HP. Suspension setup?

Great video. What area do you think you can improve on the most. Didn't the factory guys spend a day at the track and dip into 11's with stock cars and DR's? If I am wrong please forgive me. With 120-125 more HP at the wheels than stock, what are you looking to run realistically?

TPOWER It's good to see your going back to the track with a drag racer. He will know all the tricks to making a car run like it should. Good luck. |
