My dealer has always given me a lot car and not a rental.

Granted, I never needed one a 18 years old but seems that it could have been pretty simple.

contact gm. i would take used, refurbished NOTHING. ONLY NEW. there's a gm rep on the forum who im surprised didn't chime in yet. that's unacceptable. what if you trade your car in 4 years from now. there going to see its not the transmission it came with and its used. your car value will have dramatically decreased

Oh, and refurbished also means rebuilt. It might just be BETTER than new. Try and find out. They could have put better parts in it somehow. I seriously doubt it but it's possible. At least they were up front with you.

This might be all on the up and up. But I'll stay tuned to find out.

I'd let you take mine to homecoming if I lived there.

PQ That would be very kind of you to loan your car for his Homecoming, you must have gotten that soft *Heart* from your beautiful wife.

Can't believe they're not going to let you have some kind of a loaner. I'm not sure how the laws about this are in MD but stick to you guns and make them repair this to your satisfaction. You paid good money for that car and deserve good service. When everything settles down use a different dealer if it makes you feel better, there's plenty out there. And just for fun let us locals know which dealer it is so we can avoid them too! Lol

There has been some problems with the auto transmission on the torque converter. I don't know if that is maybe the reason they are doing a rebuilt. Something to ask about. Take one of your parents down to the dealer and get a loaner car. I can see some states have laws about under 21-25/yrs/old having a rental or loaner car. That has to be the reason even though you can vote and go to Afghanistan and get killed you can't rent a car. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it. It's a bunch of B.S.

I tried moving it out of the way, I had to floor it and it would red line just to get it to move (its an auto). I was able to get it off the side of the road while putting up a bypass into a corn field. Opened the hood fully and smoke started pouring out and I saw about a gallon of fluids coming out of the car, I had a line of it following me . I believe the transmission coolant line completely exploded then causing the radiator to pop. Im lucky someone did not hit me at the intersection. Its just hard for me to believe a new car with that low of miles, ive never even been over 75 mph and this would happen. Its my first car as well, literally scared the hell out of me. I thought it was on fire from all of the smoke surrounding me... it eventually got towed tonight to the dealer. I am going in the morning to figure this out.

Cool thing though a fellow camaro owner in 2nd gen z28 pulled over to see if I needed help, I appreciated that.
If you take one of your parents down to the dealer let us know and we should all blast the company with email complaints to the dealer and GM until he does get a loaner unless it will be fixed in the next two days. Subscribed to the thread.

GM does not offer a "new" replacement automatic transmission, all GM SRTA's (Service Replacement Transmission Assembly) are remanufactured, you don't have a choice to even buy a "brand-new" transmission. Its either a reman,or nothing.

And having a SRTA will have no effect on the cars value

As far as the rental,we use Enterprise at our dealership, and they won't rent to anyone under 25.

My dealership was out of loaners off the lot, so they were going to get a rental from Enterprise for me. Then my salesman stepped in (I was just chatting with him in the showroom while I waited for Enterprise), and said he was going to let me "test drive" a car for the 2-3 days it was going to take for repairs. Talk to your salesman, maybe if your dad does with you, they can make that kind of arrangement.

I dont really give a you know what about the value, having a brand new car and something like this happens, i expect brand new parts.... im sure if something like this happened to you or your child, youd like new parts on the car as well... who knows, maybe i am asking too much

You should email GM and help me at least get new parts. If I dont, my Camaro will be gone. I wouldnt feel comfortable with it and my parents dont want me to have it as well, my father was at the dealer with me and they told him the same thing... we've only bought GM products. We've had about 15 so far and if they cant make this right, GM will be done with our business.

No,I don't think your asking too much, and others have questioned it as well, its just that no "brand-new" transmission is available, only new reman assemblies, same way with most alternators, starters, and ECM's/PCM's...they are only available as reman parts.

Now with that being said,I've been in the GM parts business for over 22 years, and have only seen a handful of failures from a reman part (this includes transmissions, starters, alternators,ECM's,etc.)
my opinion....they are just as good,if not better,than a "brand-new" part.
I've seen many brand-new cars and trucks with low miles on them have the transmission fail,we install a new SRTA reman unit in it,and we never see it again!
I have 6 transmissions that are out of various vehicles sitting right now waiting to go back to GM that we changed under warranty, they are the original "new" transmissions from the factory.
My point is that if a "brand-new" transmission is so good, why are we changing so many of them? but when we replace them with a new SRTA reman unit we never see them again!
Let them replace yours with a SRTA unit, you have nothing to worry about if an issue should arise, you still have your remaining warranty

Get rid of the car because you had a transmission issue, but don't get rid of it just because they can only offer you a reman unit
As I said earlier, the SRTA reman is no more prone to failure than the original unit was,if anything the SRTA's are better, they install the newest upgraded parts that may not have been available on the original one.

BTW....GM is not the only one,we were a Dodge dealer for 10 years, they too only offer reman transmissions as replacements. I also checked with our Ford dealership, same thing....new "reman" replacement only.
