IN all likelihood none of the videos you'll see on youtube are CAFE certified manufacturers tests done at the manufacturers facility with independent SAE engineers present. Photography/cameras, with very few exceptions, is strictly forbidden. As I recall you aren't even allowed to take cameras on Corvette plant tours.

Actually here is an article that bids farewell to the outgoing 5th Gen 1LE with a really nice review of the car. But more interestingly is that it also briefly discusses the optional performance exhaust (NPP option) as adding 6 HP to the currently rated 426 bringing it up to 432 HP. So any recovered HP from switching from a hydraulic to electric power steering pump would be a few above the 432 the article cites. So the LS3 in the 1LE produces enough to possibly give an extra 5 mph or more in a race.
Here is a link to the article. http://www.torquenews.com/106/2015-c...arewell-legend Last edited by The Captain; 07-19-2015 at 09:15 AM. Reason: added a link |

Interesting discussion. I would guess that it is very possible that eliminating the hydraulic steering pump would free up some resistance. thus increasing flywheel output. I would wager that GM simply did not retest the engine under S.A.E. criteria, thus did not change the number.
The NPP exhaust could be the same story, as I believe it was introduced on the Corvette prior to the Camaro. I'm not sure if this exhausts changes the catalytic converter set up or not. The ability of exhaust to increase engine horsepower relies upon it's ability to increase scavaging of intake air. If this exhaust allows the exiting exhaust air to pull in more intake air during valve overlap, there's your increase. However, if there is a difference between the Corvette exhaust system, including cats, this scavanging effect may not be as much in the Camaro, hence no advertised HP increase? Just some thoughts based upon my current understanding, and as always, I reserve the right to be wrong. |
