Camaro convertible next year? With Z91 engine option?

Does anyone know if they are releasing the Camaro next year with the convertible? Also is it possible to get the Z91 engine in the Camaro stock or do you need to do the engine switch yourself in order to get the car up to 638 HP?

Please get back to me as soon as possible I was just curious

Thanks

The search button is your best friend. Quarter-1 2011 is supposively the release date for the Camaro Vert. As a long time GM car guy I've never heard of a Z91 engine before. You're thinking of the LS9 and unless GM decides to build the Camaro Z28 then any LS7/LS9's in Camaro's will have to be swapped in.

You are referring to the ZR1 motor. That motor it called the LS9. It will not be released with the Camaro in the foreseeable future, especially considering the state of GM business.

Don't worry. The LS3 can handle a lot of power. Feel free to build its internals and supercharge it to break 638 hp.

and if the LS9 or LS7 ever does become production......odds are it will never see a convertible simply from a structural point of view. Fbodfather made a comment once that mentioned structural integrity questions with T-Tops in an LS3 SS.

but, quarter 1 in 2011 the convertible is supposed to make a comeback.

Actually, the convertible is built to compensate for structural wear differently. If it can handle the LS3, then I doubt that it will have much trouble dealing with a supercharged version, the LS9. The LS7 is going out of production. It is a very expensive, hand-constructed product that GM simply can't afford to keep. Plus, it continues that image of a high-displacement V8-powered GM. It can't continue forever.

I've theorized that the convertible structure could be modified to produce T-tops with the removal of the convertible top. Since the convertible is a legally sound vehicle when it comes to safety, speculation would suggest that the body, if customized to include the coupe top, could be cut into a coupe with T-tops. This would be a very expensive customization, but it would allow for T-tops. The process would require removing the entire convertible mechanism and replacing the entire top of the car with a hard top from a Camaro coupe. This would then be cut to form custom T-tops. It would make sense to reuse T-tops from another car or a previous Camaro for this so that the T-top inserts would be easily replaced if damaged, stolen, or destroyed. Since this would be a completely custom job, the only warranties for such an option would come from the shop doing the work and the parts manufacturers for the T-top inserts and lining. In summary, T-tops are possible, but they would be built on a convertible and cost a ridiculous amount of money.

Old pic. But yes they are working on it. 2 more years and one could be delivered.
