30k service $650?

Is there such a thing? And how much is is supposed to cost? My dealer is telling me $650.

And that just sounds stupid high?

Anyone else done it recently?

Ask the dealer where in the owners manual they list a 30k mile service.

The K services have always been that expensive...thats why I always get the maintenance program, they are included.

The Ford F150 ones were like $700 30k, $900 60k....the maint plan was $1500 and covered everything but the battery and tires. Thats what makes them a good deal if you get the price down.

The service manual goes from 25k to 50k miles. There isn't a 30k mile service.

Quote:
Every 25,000 Miles
. Passenger compartment
air filter replacement (or every
24 months, whichever occurs
first). More frequent replacement
may be needed if you drive
in areas with heavy traffic,
areas with poor air quality,
or areas with high dust levels.
Replacement may also be
needed if you notice reduced
air flow, windows fogging up,
or odors. Your dealer can help
you determine when it is the
right time to replace the filter.

Every 50,000 Miles
. Engine air cleaner filter
replacement. See Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter on page 10‑16.

. Automatic transmission fluid
change (severe service) for
vehicles mainly driven in
heavy city traffic in hot weather,
in hilly or mountainous terrain,
when frequently towing a
trailer, or used for taxi,
police, or delivery service.
See Automatic Transmission
Fluid on page 10‑15.
11-6 Service and Maintenance

. Rear axle fluid change (severe
service) for vehicles mainly
driven in hilly or mountainous
terrain, when frequently towing
a trailer, used for high speed or
competitive driving, or used for
taxi, police, or delivery service.
See your dealer.

. Evaporative control system
inspection. Check all fuel and
vapor lines and hoses for proper
hook‐up, routing, and condition.
Check that the purge valve,
if the vehicle has one, works
properly. Replace as needed.
Either way $650 is $600 too high.

The Manual isnt pertinent to this, It will be listed in the warranty plan, often if you dont get the 30k and 60k, some vehicles have different bench marks, the warranty is no longer valid.

Really? I have never paid a dealer to perform any required maintenance
on any vehicle I have ever owned including oil changes. I take care of my own vehicles and yet I have never had a warranty request denied.

I second that. Anythings possible depending on the prick level of your dealer.

There's people who have gotten tunes and even supercharged their vehicle who never got a warranty denied.....it all depends on your dealer and where you take it....

My 36k warranty is nearly up and I want to get a couple of warranty items fixed before it expires. Driver door doesn't always know it's closed (map light switch?) and a small vibration in steering wheel when turning (lube?). They tried to sell me the 30k service for $625 claiming 3 hours of work to;
- Change oil
- Clean TB and injectors
- Change air filters (engine and cabin)
- Chassis lube
- Belt, tire pressure, and fluid inspection / top off
- Check and "dust off" brakes

I suppose the TB and injector cleaning could take an hour or so but the rest is pretty basic. Now why would I spend $625 for that?

I think I'm better off and it's probably time for a tune from Ted for less. ;-)

I will drive from my house in Phoenix, AZ, change the cabin air filter and the oil/filter and drive home a happy man for $650. Because that's about all that needs to be done.

*Note: Offer includes Mobil 1 motor oil and the filters of your choice, otherwise I'll use NAPA Gold for both. Offer valid for a limited time. Restrictions and limitations apply. All rights reserved.

@SS11, I understand your point of view on the cost of the services that the dealership wanted to do to your vehicle. How are things going with the car? Did you opt to have the service performed?
