Drag racing wheel hop
I have a 2011 2SS manual trans, with cam and headers making about 450 rwhp. Mostly used as a daily driver but I do about 10-20 trips to the drag strip per year. I definitely plan on adding 18 inch rear wheels and drag radials, and way down the road, possibly a supercharger. I don't care about lowering or looks, unless it helps drag strip performance. I mostly want to get rid of wheel hop and put power to the asphalt while maintaining good street handling. Naturally, I'd like to have all the suspension and driveline upgrades, but for now, on a budget, what suspension upgrade(s) would be the most bang for buck to start with, and what would be next? I'd like to keep it well under a thousand dollars to start with, and then maybe up to a thousand next year for more suspension parts.

PFADT toe rods, trailing arms, subframe bushings. A tad bit over $1000, but if you can do it yourself, it's well worth the money. That should get rid of a majority, if not all the wheel hop.

Getting rid of wheel hop is all about limiting the movement of the rear tires in relation to the chassis under acceleration. The main culprits are the rear cradle and differential bushings, rear trailing arms and their bushings, and the toe rods and their bushings. For someone that hits the strip regularly it would be a good idea to go ahead and address the control arm bushings while everything is apart. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up. |

Thanks for the advice guys. Google returned tie rods along with toe rods. Are they the same thing? And will rear only work, or is it strongly advised to upgrade the front at the same time?

Trailing Arms and some cradle bushing inserts will be the biggest help. I can tell you that from real world experience. You don't have to use just Pfadt products but they are a very good choice. There are other Mfgs that make good products as well. Toe Rods will help as well but Trailing Arms will give you more of an impact. Trailing Arms don't require an alignment, Toe Rods do.
I would say Pfadt or BMR are the most popular brands for Trailing Arms and Toe Rods used on here. You'll want to change out the bushing where the Trailing Arm connects to the Hub. I would stick to Pfadt for that bushing....BMR's have started to show some issues with higher HP cars. Untill they get that address I would stick to Pfadt for that even if you use BMR trailing arms. Cradle bushings is right at the top of the list as well. At 450 HP you can still get by with using cradle bushing inserts instead of a full bushing. Much more though and you'll probably want to go to a full bushing. Pedders Street Z kit that has the cradle bushing inserts and radius rod inserts are a great bang for the buck. I tried the BMR style and had a hard time installing them correctly. I removed them after about 2 weeks and went with Pedders and never looked back. I suggest calling and talking to Jordan over at JDP Motorsports who is also a vendor on here. He is a vendor for all these Mfgs and he can mix-n-match you a great combo to fit your budget. He has first hand experience with racing a 5th gen as well so he can recommend products that work. BTW: if you do add some Toe Rods you'll have to have an alignment. Make sure to have the guy align your car using the Pfadt or Pedders "Aggressive Street" or "Performance Street" specs.

Well thanks a lot for all the information and advice
Camaro5 Forums Rocks! I got the answers I needed just by asking! Now I know what I need and got tips and leads on where to go get the parts. This is so much better than reading magazine ads. You guys are great! I'll be calling some of the contacts, but I gotta wait until the bonus check arrives. I sure hope it's not a "Jelly Bean of the Month" subscription, or I might have to ask cousin Eddie to help out.

I would suggest reading the threads about the bushing issue on the BMR trailing arms. Pfadt, nuff said.

Don't waste your money on aftermarket trailing arms and toe rods. It's the bushings in the stock parts that are too soft not the parts themselves. Get a cradle bushing set, I got the energy one for $150. It does the upper and lower control arms as well.
