I used Mobil 1 filter and oil for my first oil change today, was very sad to find my car came with CarQuest filter from CarMax I assume, where I bought the car.

Fram makes junk across the board. Cut one open. It's no different than any other fram. And for the same price you could get something decent.

Sad? Really? You have nothing better to worry about?...carquest filters are made by wix and wix is good.

That's true of any part, actually.

Recall that unless the filter itself caused the issue, you can use whichever brand is designed for your car without voiding the warranty. Which is on the dealership to prove. Not the sole fact that you used a Wix filter instead of a Delco.

If I recall correctly, under Magnuson-Moss, if a manufacturer required their branded part to be used in order to maintain warranty, they must not charge for that part. Why do you think they "certified" other brands of oils to be dexos use compatible?

That said, I've never had any issues with ACDelco filters.

You don't need or want more capacity. The PF48 is perfect in all aspects. You don't want a longer filter that would be in the line of fire for road debris.

If there was some problem with the the pf48s. I could see the point to this great search for something better. There isn't, it works perfect.

The only different filter you would need for an LS motor is if you have a dry sump set up that has super high start up oil pressure like the LS7 motor. Then you want the thick can version of the pf48, UPF48R.

Spend your money on the best oil you can find... Amsoil, Joe Gibbs, Redline... the stock filter is a high quality piece that works perfect.

We use to see two common problems with the lower quality filters. The drainback valve either missing or not working causing lifter knock on start up. The other is filter media or the cardboard end caps coming apart and blockup up oil passages. That wipes the motor right out. Some don't have the metal inner can, and could collapse inward when their cheaper relief vavle doesn't work at high start up pressure. The PF-48s have a high quality anti drain back valve, coil spring pressure relieve valves, and metal end caps. They are overbuilt and perfect quality for a decent price.

I cut this one apart a while back after someone tried to knock them saying they didn't have metal end caps.

You can see the metal coil spring inside for the pressure relief. The cheaper ones often leave that out or a very cheap little bent metal strip as the spring, metal end caps, the black rubber ring is the anti-drain back vavle...

If you have a dry sump LS7 or dry sump Vette GS LS3, those use the UPF-48R. Those have a thicker can body for the
super high oil pressure those engines hit at start up.

I used to be a technician with a couple different dealers in Canada and I too, believe in the AC Delco filters. So much so, I use them on ALL my vehicles. Never had a problem with any and I have, in my career as a mechanic, seen a lot of aftermarket filters either cave in on themselves and or blow apart. Not to mention blocked oil passages due to filter media.

Besides, if GM figures they're good enough for warranty on their engines, then they're good enough for my vehicles.

Ac-Delco or Mobil 1 filter. I only use Mobil 1 in my Camaro. Valvoline in other cars with conventional oil.
