Remember GM use the manual trans at Nurburgring with a time of 7:41.27

I bought my automatic because I was tired of driving a stick ... I had my 628rwhp SS for 3 years...it was a 6spd... I purchased 3 clutches, 3 flywheels, lingenfelters return spring, ideal garage master cylinder...changed fluid frequently.... Still had a minor 1st to 2nd gear grind....

These are some of the reasons why I went with an automatic this time... Plus an automatic isn't as hard on the drive train....

I live in SD and trust me we have our fair share of heavy traffic too.

Bottom line if you feel the opposite way that I do, pick the auto.
very well said...

Manual vs. Automatic

I agree, I just could not bring myself to buy such a car as a ZL1, with an automatic (Slush Box). The Auto may win on a drag strip, but certainly not a race track or road course. Do you think that was an automatic transmission in any of the ZL1's tested at the Ring, VIR Laguna Seca? Answer, OF course not.

For me, I also agree.*

But it also gets to fill the role of truly high-powered relaxed cruiser, for which many people are likely to actively prefer the automatic.

*then again, I don't even buy my DD's with automatic

Yes there was. Can't remember where the reference is but I remember people talking about how well it did.

They tested Auto AND Manual at VIR and Nurburgring.

My Equinox has an auto, so does my Avalanche. However, when I go out on the weekend and play on Watkins Glen or if I'm just hitting some back roads, I want to row through some gears. Now if I were a drag racer, it might be different.

Old people prefer autos.
We're just too darn lazy to have to bother shifting.

Yup. The thrill was gone long ago. I drove 18 wheelers for 10 years and manuals all my life. I'm only 42 but I much prefer to let the car do all the work.

I always wondered about that.

Vanilla = Auto
Chocolate = Manual
