Mounting JL 650 C2's in front BA system - tips

I received a mantra plug in harness from ******** that is supposed to plug into the main signal wire coming into the door and then send that to the + and - on the JL crossover. The wires for the BA woofer and tweeter just seem to come out of the main harness.

The BA tweeter with a resistor/diode/whatever on the tweeter seems to filter out the lows.

update - the woofer plug is the main signal output. So I took it straight to the JL crossover input and fed the new JL speakers from there - a few items: used ********s speaker adapters, round the square bottom edges, it fits better and I used hi temp silicone to mount adapters to the door along with 3 screws.
Mounting the new tweeter in the stock housing is simple. Just wrap the edge of the tweeter with VHB tape and set in housing, use some spare plastic or wood to shunt the bottom and push the vhb toward the top, close up with the screw and the back foam keeps everything in place...

Hmmm...sounds like you need the metra from the harness to the xover....then xover to woofs and tweets...curious on what u think of the jl's over the BA's? Big difference?

Based on what you are describing it sounds right...but I'm sure someone here who has done this before will chime in.

sounds great - yes, worth it...you can run the gain up on the fronts now to about 11 am now and let everything pass thru (HP/LP filter off)

Sounds (no pun intended) like you've got it working.

From what I've seen/read, the channel input (main plug on the BA woofer...which it appears you have used) feeds the JL crossover...which then feeds the JL driver and tweeter.

I've been wanting to do this as well, I've just got many other things that require my cash at the moment.

Probably sounds nice, especially as I believe you are already using the JL amp.

thanks - yeah, I thought the door harness had a plug that splits to the tweeter and woofer. You unplug there and plug in the metra plug - not the case. Since the tweeter just filters out the lows, the bottom speaker looks like it's getting the full range and is the signal source.

$116 on amazon and hand tools...a great value/cost mod...if you have already re-amp'd....

at $116, stay out of the bars for a few weekends - money problem solved...LOL

[update - just got back from a 50 mile ride - this is a night and day diff - the JL amp woke the BA system up, but the front JL's and more gain really changed everything. I highly recommended this mod.]

If you turn the gain up that much, I wonder if I should have plopped in the 600/6 working as a 4 channel.

Hmmmm... Shop I bought the xd400/4 allows for upgrade for one year by just paying the difference in amp price. (Sound advice)

I've got my c2-650 just sitting in the box. They stare at me each weekend... LoL I really need to get on doing this one.

Metra kit arrived and so did ******** kit. I just need to buckle down and do it!

Which setting did you plug the component tweets to? +3, -3, etc? I was looking at the crossovers last night

I am in the tweet pos they came in, but I might try the -2 position if your listen loud as they can get bright....
