I'm not going to lie, I sat there and watched the two Camaros together. What you really see is not that they are going into a turn at different speeds, and not that the ZL1 is putting out higher speeds or better acceleration, because it doesn't look like it is, but what you see is the Z/28 coming out of the corners and much higher speeds in some cases. Tighter the corner, bigger the advantage the Z/28 has. No surprise.

They should put the tires and brakes on a ZL1 and run it at Milford, that way it is not as expensive. But I wonder if they don't want to know those results?

I agree completely. They might not want to see that combo on the ZL1 because it might take away some of the glory from the Z28.....

When I watch the videos the thing that amazes me is how fast that ZR1 is accelerating. There are a lot of sections the Camaros run flat out where the Corvette driver is lifting because the car is too fast.... On the final straight the corvette driver lifts at the crest of the hill and does not use any downhill for a speed boost, now he is already going 180 up the hill... the Camaro's both get a slight down hill boost at full throttle before backing off for the corners.
I really would like to see what one of those guys could do with my car on that track. I wouldn't mind trying it myself but a track like that is going to take a lot of laps before you really get a feel on how to get the best time.

You guys are all missing the point.
Who cares what tires and brakes you can put on this car and that car. Are the ZL1's brakes inadequate? No. They're better then 99% of ANY car on the road. Are the tires on the Z28 better? Sure they are...on a TRACK. Have any of you ever driven a car with COLD race spec tires on the street? It can be down right scary..not to mention the tires would wear out very fast. 2x cars built for 2x different purposes. The ZL1 is the STREET car that can still be used on the track. The Z28 is the TRACK car that can still be used on the street. Once you all get and understand the difference, it makes perfect sense. You can throw Toyo Proxes R888's on a 2010 Cobalt SS/TC and im sure it would be a lot faster then it would with the factory tires it came with...but thats not the point...it didnt come with that. The ZL1 you all love and enjoy now was supposed to be the Z28...but like Al Openheiser said himself...it didnt deserve the legendary name plate Z28. You dont have to like it...if you prefer the ZL1, buy the ZL1. The people who want to go really fast on a track and not worry about voiding there warranty by modifying there ZL1's and SS/1LE's to increase the power/braking/handling will gladly scoop this new Z28 up.

The GYs are an excellent street / track tire. When they are run hard on the track they let you know they are working hard. The Trofeo is a great track tire that just happens to be street legal. Made with softer stickier rubber they are much quieter on track. |

This^^^^^. Big Al has already said 7:31. That's 10-11 sec less than the ZL1. Yes I'm sure one could pull 3 seconds out of the zl1 time with better brakes and tires but It safe to say the ZL1 is still 8 seconds behind the Z28 on the same day. The Z28 is the track king camaro. The ZL1 is no less bad ass, just more of a grand tourer with all the luxury feature and go fast goddies.
