2013 COPO Camaro #041 built by Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage at the GM Factory. This is a once in a lifetime chance to own this one of one Gas Monkey Garage COPO Camaro. Included in the documentation are all the Build Sheets for the chassis and spec sheets for the LS7 based 427 with a 2-speed Powerglide transmission. This is a advertized as 8 second ¼ mile car which makes it the fastest COPO Camaro ever built. All of the torque stamps have the Gas Monkey Garage logo which signifies this as a one-of-a-kind opportunity to honor the COPO Legacy. The complete build with Richard Rawlings in the GM Factory and raceway testing will be featured on an upcoming episode of the hit show Fast N Loud. A limited production of 69 cars was selected to commemorate the original number of ZL-1 COPO Camaros made in 1969. COPO, which stands for Central Office Production Order, was Chevrolet's special order system, notoriously used by dealers in the 1960s to build high-performance models that couldn't be found anywhere else. The second coming of the COPO name is an extension of the legacy started in 1969, when the first purpose-built Camaro drag racing specialty car was designed to compete with the quickest in NHRA's Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes. Born to dominate in a straight line, this beast is specially engineered to punish the strip, not to mention the competition. COPO is a true racing machine. It is specifically offered for off-highway, competitive NHRA use only. It cannot be registered, titled, licensed, or driven on public roads or highways. The COPO Camaro is designed to NHRA racing specifications, including a solid axle and a full chrome-moly roll cage. Inside, most of the standard sound-deadening and power accessories have been deleted in order to optimize weight for NHRA racing. You don't the man, I know as a fact he could buy one today if he wanted to. I think it was on page 2 of this thread that I said some ZL1 owners think their shit doesn't stink, its F'n annoying!

What upsets the ZL1 owners is when people come on this thread and cut down ZL1's and most of them have never even driven one. Or they say my car will beat your ZL1, well that is great! Most of the time they want to compare their car with $25,000 in mods to a stock ZL1. So friendly debate is one thing but there are many who just want to cut down the car. What kind of reaction do you expect on a thread dedicated to ZL1's?

I have never seen more envy than what surrounds the ZL1. The SS is a great Camaro but it's not and cannot be as good as the ZL so get over it. Of course the ZL is a Supercar but that's just my opinion of what one is (along with just about all of the automotive industry). Price doesn't involve being one but if you want to factor it into the issue so be it. The ZL was very intentionally underpriced with the understanding that GM would make up for it with marketing, increased interest, etc. one would think that guys being so passionate about GM making great cars would be more supportive of the ZL instead of constantly trying to tear it down and try to dismiss its capability and utility on the track or street. Weather I owned one or not, the ZL is the top dog and not another car comes close no matter what you spend to make another car it's equal. I love cars, I'm fanatical about Camaros but the ZL is above my attempts to praise how cool it is.... It's a SUPERcar.

I don't think anyone is ripping the ZL1. The question was asked if its a supercar & people have stated their opnions, me personally, I don't think it fits the title of supercar. Its natural for someone that has an SS to think to themselves, for $7, 000 my car will be quicker than a ZL1, their right also. I know there is much more than straight line performance with the ZL1. 99.9% of us will never drive the Nurburgring, 80% of us will never drive any road course, I'd bet at least 70% of us drag race at some point or at least punch off from stop lights. I'm gonna assume that's why people say their SS is better & the ZL1 is overpriced. I have an SS that is built from top to bottom, I still bought a ZL1 because I think their awesome, I could of bought anything I wanted & that's what I picked, I love them. I still would never call it a supercar.
What bugs me about this sub forum is how many times someone will say to a non ZL1 owner stuff like, "your a wannabe Z owner, you can't afford it, why are you in this section, your jealous". I don't think its cool at all.

Well said.

There is arrogance on both sides, from the ZL1 owners who think their car is above all to the SS owners who jump in to say their car is faster/better, to the blue oval trolls. If you're not a ZL1 owner and don't want to hear ZL1 owners talking up their car, I'd recommend not visiting a ZL1 forum...

All of these mods make a wild 742 rear-wheel horsepower and 727 lb-ft of rear-wheel torque, picking up around 300 horsepower at the wheels. We took the car to Milan Dragway and ran a best time of 9.89 seconds @ 143 MPH on Mickey Thompson ET Drags.


Damn slow ZL1s!

Just watched American Top Gear on American Supercars. According to the show the ZL1 is not a Supercar. They said the last Supercar built by the big three was the Ford F1. Even the corvette didn't make the Supercar cut, they think it would need to be a mid engine. Their last comment/opinion was that American cars are a long long way from competing with the European Supercars. Can only imagine the stink they're catching from viewers. Bet ya Clarkson from BBC Top Gear would disagree about the Corvette. He loves the ZR1 and I'd bet he thinks it's definitely a Supercar.

Mid engine is a requirement to be a supercar?

Guess that means that a bunch of current Ferraris, and Aston Martins are not supercars. Guess the Nissan GTR is not one either. If they are not supercars then it is OK that my ZL1 is not one either. I will deal with being in the same company as those cars.

The Fiero was mid engine.... supercar? Maybe the MR2? I jest.

I hear ya, I think they just want to emulate some of the European cars, and that was just one clowns opinion. Although I do love the look of the see thru engine deck. Definitely not a requirement, maybe he just thinks it would better balance the car. Clarkson from BBC Top Gear loves the ZR1, and I'm sure he would title it as a Supercar.
