You don't have to get a tune, it's just recommended. The trims won't be so far off that your ECM can't adjust, but it WILL run a little lean. I think mine was around 12% or so at worst. If I remember the CAI test correctly, the Pipeline made the most power. It sucks from a standstill though. It heatsoaks bad. I get pretty nervous if I get caught in a heavy rain. You wouldn't want to drive through very much water at all.

If I had it to do again, I'd probably get the Pipeline again. Just be aware of the things you need to be aware of and you'll be fine.

It is one of the best looking intakes IMHO.

Yep, I agree. Mine would heat soak bad from sitting idle. Not good for me since I drag race on occasion. The IAT's would sky rocket in the staging lanes and would not return to normal until after my run was done. I have no proof to back it up but I truly think that I would have run faster at the track with the stock intake. It was pulling that much timing from inaccurate IAT's. It is a MONSTER from a roll though. Probably the best or maybe second only to the Vararam from a highway roll. I think this CAI could have been one of the very best if it had been made of plastic and they moved the IAT/MAF sensor a little further away from the TB.
If I had it to do over again it would have been ADM race with scoop or a Vararam CAI.

Still get cold AC. I just notice a flat spot in power from a dead stop.

Exactly. The intake makes serious power if you're already rolling. I love the intake most of the time. Plastic would have been a good idea. It looks to me like the IAT sensor reacts slowly like a normal thermometer. That heat soak takes a minute to go away if my logs are correct.

Right and by the time the heat soaked IAT sensor gives you a true reading your run is done so its no bueno for drag racing but like I said a monster for roll racing.

The Fastlane was one of my first mods and a great intake for performance. The key to IAT's is the old thermistor trick from my GTO days:

Cliff notes: replace the IAT sensor with a special thermistor that measures more quickly (e.g. not as effected by heat soak), and move it closer to the filter.

Works like a charm.

I haven't done anything to help my heat situation yet John. Padre's solution sounds like a hot ticket.

I've gone a little beyond that , but I ran the shorties to low 12's with bolt-ons, and well into the 11's with a cam.

And I'm still #17 on the bolt-on list, and #16 on the internal mods (cam) list. Only one with shorties on either list (I believe). And the Fastlane Pipeline was my CAI at the time.

Guys wondering if you have changed the thermostat into 160 or whatever? did it work?
