So if the bugs in this aftermarket radio sucks, why not ask the manufacturer for just the faceplate with buttons and put your own radio in there.

No harm in asking I suppose but this type of unit looks like the face plate and the HU are "married". Given the screen and CD slot locations etc.

I think it would have to be a hack job to get it custom like you ask.

I am guessing that it is a standard radio and maybe could be swapped out for something comparable. I know it defeats the purpose of plug and play lol. But it seems hat most of us are drawn to the faceplate itself.

+2, and no issues with any aftermarket head unit that I have installed (that would be 2 of them). No lockups, no glitches....

Right. But did either of those run on the Andriod playform?

So a few more days with the unit, after making adjustments:

The Good:
Still makes the interior better looking
Sound Quality is the same.
Navigation is spot on without internet connection
Plays music, movies and other files just fine with the USB connections.
Picks up last long played when car is turned off and back on.
Reverse camera is cheap, but works fine with guidelines.
Quick Browser processing
Easily Tethers to House Wifi or Phone Mobile Hotspot (Android Phone)
Easily adds Contacts from Phone to Bluetooth Phone-book
All steering wheel controls work EXCEPT for call. When pressed on Steering wheel it will not initiate call. Mute/End, Volume Up/Down, Source all work.
DVD works well, I have a lower resolution screen the others have ordered.
Car radio works just like the OEM unit, same channels and clarity.

The Bad (Now Fixed)
Pre-installed equalizer, comes with 2 preinstalled that fight each other. Just removed one and sound is fine.
Just fine with TPMS (make sure you dont need air and think there is problems with the unit).
Google Play works fine once the one time fix is completed for the error code (common on 2.3.4)
OS lag is fixed with adding a App Cache Cleaner, no lag.

Not Solved Yet
IGo Navigation always loads when starting the vehicle (It seems)(Still the same.)
Will play from Ipod (tags and codes songs incorrectly sometimes) Switched to USB
No Steering wheel control of Ipod, only screen control.(Still the same.)
Prior to removing stock radio and looking at the connections, almost looks like a beginner couldn't figure it out.
Does take some modification to fit dash
Very little instructions provided
Screen is pretty bright while driving at night (can hit button to turn black) or set different wallpaper. Same

Pending:
Remote Control Use (need battery which I haven't picked up yet)
Camera Recording (Haven't tried)
Using Bluetooth Menu to access Factory Settings of Unit (codes are provided on nearly the last page of the limited instruction manual)

This unit is not for everyone. This thing may not last, everyone has something they are looking for. I wanted something with Android as none of the current Big Name units seem to have broke through with this yet. I am a little disappointed with the fitment and having to modify, but sometimes that even happens with brand name. I am also a little disappointed with the lack of instructions, there are none. I am not a novice but I am no means an expert and I figured it out. I will update occasionally with any good or bad issues. Those that are worried about the Western Union transaction, well it is your money, no one will look after it better then you will. As far as I know, the 3 or 4 people who have ordered all have received.

Below is a shot of the backup camera screen in complete darkness.

I can see the quality isn't the greatest on the camera, but it's not better than nothing. Play I'm sure the clarity is better during daylight. I can't fathom why these cameras aren't producing a better picture, you would think they would put a decent camera in there, both own and aftermarket.

Thank you bnorman for your reviews

Have you had to use the factory reset often? Has your unit locked up often?

The red text below are my responses pertaining to me.

Agreed which is why it's on my shortlist ie this or Ofer's MyLink retrofit
Sound Quality is the same.
I'm not a big audiophile and am satisfied with OEM so this is perfect for me.
Navigation is spot on without internet connection
Great and I'll also have an internet connection too so I guess it can only get better.
Plays music, movies and other files just fine with the USB connections.
I have to add USB in my console but with this unit I don't need to get the PDIM so it is a bonus.
Picks up last song played when car is turned off and back on.
I'm indifferent to this.
Reverse camera is cheap, but works fine with guidelines.
I figured it would be the case perhaps I won't purchase their BU camera if I do go with this unit.
Quick Browser processing
Can't complain here.
Easily Tethers to House Wifi or Phone Mobile Hotspot (Android Phone)
I currently have iPhone but I'm sure I'll be able to use it's Hotspot. I do plan on switching to Android if I get this unit but only at my next eligible upgrade.
Easily adds Contacts from Phone to Bluetooth Phone-book
Great! One of the biggest reasons for me to switch is to gain phone options.
All steering wheel controls work EXCEPT for call. When pressed on
Steering wheel it will not initiate call. Mute/End, Volume Up/Down,
Source all work.
I'm disappointed with the one exception but I'll have to add steering wheel controls to begin with. Perhaps pairing this unit with a Bluestar module may work.

DVD works well, I have a lower resolution screen the others have ordered.
I'm torn on this one naturally I am more a videophile than I am audiophile so I may not want the best sound but when offered the best picture I'll usually go for it. However for this units purpose I don't really need HQ picture as I won't be looking at the screen as much.

Car radio works just like the OEM unit, same channels and clarity.
Same keeps me pleased.

The Bad (Now Fixed)
If it's a one time fix it's not a negative rather a neutral as you fix it the one time and carry on. I can live with these.

Pre-installed equalizer, comes with 2 preinstalled that fight each other. Just removed one and sound is fine.
Delete and Go a few minutes of my time.
Just fine with TPMS (make sure you dont need air and think there is problems with the unit).
I will need air my right rear is tripping the oem unit all the time but this is at fault of the tire not the headunit.

Google Play works fine once the one time fix is completed for the error code (common on 2.3.4)
Apply fix and go
OS lag is fixed with adding a App Cache Cleaner, no lag.
Download app and maintain just like most electronic items.

The Bad Not Solved Yet
IGo Navigation always loads when starting the vehicle (It seems)(Still the same.)
Ug but I can live with it.
Will play from Ipod (tags and codes songs incorrectly sometimes) Switched to USB
iPod connectivity is one of the reasons I want a new HU. I'd actually have to play with a unit and my iPod to see how badly it indexes. Worst case is I switch to USB for the Camaro.
No Steering wheel control of Ipod, only screen control.(Still the same.)
See above comment. What about SWC for USB?
Prior to removing stock radio and looking at the connections, almost looks like a beginner couldn't figure it out.
Well I am more comfortable with exact instructions but as I know this unit doesn't require modding of harnesses and wires I am willing to do the install myself. If I go with it I may write up a guide for the next person.
Does take some modification to fit dash
This portion sucks but since users before me have narrowed down its fitment issues I only have to follow some guidelines. In the end this is a one time mod. Perhaps we should contact the manufacturer to make revisions we make.
Very little instructions provided
Not comfortable with this but if it's truly plug and play it shouldn't be too hard.
Screen is pretty bright while driving at night (can hit button to turn black) or set different wallpaper. Same
Is there not a brightness setting in general settings?

No I have not had any lock ups.

I did use the Reset in the Bluetooth Code menu when I started trying different combinations, but didn't get anywhere with them so I am back to the original set up.

I have not tried USB control with Steering Wheel.

I did not split into the Onstar module, debating on this, I have no idea if this would help.

As for contacting to let the salesman, etc know about fitment. I did take pictures and communicate with him about this, so possibly they may change but who knows.

I used 2SS's instructions on installing a camera on how to run the cable, etc. Long story short, I ran power and ground back to the fuse box as well. I had to use one quick connect for the reverse camera and the unit. I took pictures of the camera install, so I can show you which wire to connet to.

I am switching over to USB from Ipod. I switched prior from USB to Ipod because I did not have the center console USB port, which I added to the Camaro. Have on there and ran the other into the Glove Box.

So from now til after Christmas I am debating the OBDII on Amazon and Torque (just cause) and the GM Splitter for Onstar. Not sure what I will do with the HDMI output since no one sits in the back seat.

I wish it had HDMI input so I can throw in one of my game consoles from time to time for my passengers. The output is useless to me as well. I mean it's a Camaro we are not going to be putting Flat-screens all over the vehicle like it's coming out of WCC.

The foot-well lighting I am also working on (RGB) can be controlled via a wifi connection with an iOS app or Android app so having this unit may be beneficial to my foot-well install as I can use the headunit to change the colors. This may be planned for my Halo's in the future as well which is a major reason I'm looking at this.

If you were also
asking about the Kenwood DNN990HD I believe it does run on Android.
