Remote start M6
I'm looking at installing a remote start/alarm combo in my 2012 2SS M6. I have spoken to an installer and done some research. I have read about either bypassing the clutch switch or doing some laborious ritual upon exiting the car when parking it. Is there not a neutral safety switch that an alarm can monitor to make sure that it is not in gear?

The way it works is like this... When you park your car, it has to be in neutral and still running, therefore your E-Brake HAS to be engaged and your foot CANNOT be on the brake pedal. Then, just turn the key OFF and the car will stay running and you get out and close the door. As soon as you close the door, the car will shut itself off and lock the doors, arm the alarm and the remote start will be ready for use. Now, if you decide to go into the car and open the door and you do NOT start the car and perform the same procedure, then the remote starter will not activate. The remote starter/alarm brain is smart...it senses the car is in neutral because when you turn the key off and open the door, the car is still running, so it knows the last time the engine ran, the car was 100% for sure in neutral. This is a HUGE safety issue and thats the reason for the NEED for this "procedure" or "ritual". Aside from bypassing the Neutral Start safety switch, this is the ONLY way to get a remote starter to work on a manual car.

How much does this setup cost installed? Who makes it? Is it damaging to the car?

DEI systems feature this for Manual Cars. Viper, Clifford, Avital, Python, just to name a few of the DEI lines.

Almost all reputable brands have this mode now (dei, compustar).Compustar was the pioneer of an rs in a manual about 13 years ago. I would put theirs in my car in a heartbeat (but mine is a garage queen in the winter).
no they dont damage the car. on the cheap side i would guess you are looking about 300 or so. |
