Camaro vs Mustang old war-new war
Camaros and Mustangs have gone at it since their conception. Mustang has the second longest consecutive running nameplate behind Corvette.
G.M. along with poor sales dropped the Camaro from the line up thus breaking that string. Today is a new day or is it ? G.M. once inovated performance in most every field but some strange approaches are taking place and the results aren't looking all that good. The Camaro struggled out of the gate. Yes, they are making them but note the posts of customers anxiously awaiting theirs. In my area, no Camaros are on the lots for sale while 5 Mustangs and 2 Challengers are on lots in my small town. Asking a dealer when a Camaro would be in if ordered will give you a less than confident answer. If the facility and means exist in Canada to produce the car, where are they ? In NASCAR, next season, the Nationwide series will begin running Mustangs and Challengers. G.M. won't allow the Camaro body and racers will use the same Impala SS. How many Impala SS cars do you see on the road ? Not people's idea of a performance car. Seeing Mustangs and Challengers race can sell cars and build pride. Ford showed a profit last quarter while boasting they didn't take any TARP money and the public is obviously taking notice. What I'm saying as a G.M. loyalist and Camaro loyalist is, it certainly seems a strange way to become solvent again considering the minimum advertising of the Camaro and the absence of cars available to dealers. Two known examples in my town are guys wanting Camaros but giving up and buying available Mustangs. Several have put blowers on them and run in the low 12's. People will be patient only so long. I'm sure I'll be hit with the usual apologists who can explain away everything I said but facts are facts. Let's get going G.M. ! |

Because they're A) Being sold to the person who pre-ordered them, or B) Being sold within 30 minutes to some other person who desperately wanted a Camaro. It's not like GM isn't building them, in fact, GM can't build them fast enough. Mustangs and Challengers are on lots because demand for them is less. Ford may have profited, but that doesn't mean their future is set in stone. They still have a long way before they're in the clear.

Everyone is entitled to thier opinion- I think it matters what part of the country you live in. Where I am, I see Camaro's all the time. All of the dealers have them on the lots here, and they do move fast. I see trucks hauling them around. Granted, there are more Mustangs on the lots, but they have been in production a lot longer, and demand isn't as high for them. Challengers seem to sit as well, even though it looks like a great car. I hear some people believe UFO's exist, and nobody can convince them otherwise. My point, everyone has a different perspective depending on the location..

I agree - GM can't afford to have their Nationwide "shell" be an Impala SS to compete against Mustangs and Challengers. If Bob Lutz is a true Marketeer he'd want the Camaro SS to be the GM Chevy entry into the Nationwide series. That would leave Toyota to run their Camry against the three legendary pony cars and though the Joe Gibbs team is tough to beat there would be more incentive for Chevy, Ford and Dodge to ensure their steeds beat the Wal-Mart of cars as Motor Trend called the Camry.
If there is anything left to the adage "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" it would be having the Camaro SS compete and win in Nationwide...

there's no point in launching an advertising campaign if they don't have the supply! You WILL see commercials for the camaro, but not until theres more than a handful in the country that aren't spoken for. When the supply exceeds demand, they will advertise.

I never really understood why anyone cares what shell is on the car. It isn't even a true Impala, or Fusion, Or Camry. It simply resemebles one slightly only on the nose of the car. It shares ZERO parts with it.
If a guy puts a YUGO badge on this Ferrari- does that make it less fast? I understand the whole marketing thing, I just don't get too caught up with the NASCAR aspect of it. I am a NASCAR fan, I am smart enough to figure out that "KY"le busch doesn't really drive a Camry. Jimmy Johnson doesn't really drive an Impala.

This article on nascar.com http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/head...ate/index.html points to a few races in 2010 and full roll-out in 2011 - so even by 2010 the supply of Camaros should be caught up with demand.

They built 30,000 within the first four months of production... patience!! As they said before, people buy these things too fast for them to be sitting on the lots. GM doesn't spend a ton on advertising because they don't need to.

The whole NASCAR thing does rub it is true that they will be changing the rules so the "shell's" actually resemble the car that they "are" that being said I do understand GM's business point in not changing over to the Camaro although yes true I am greatly saddend by this fact (also because it takes a serious potential "business" case away from the Z28 moniker to be used in it "original" role & purpose) but as for the $ I more than understand it I mean just look at the Impala SS does it "resemble" the current shape of the shell in basic form yes... no how much wind tunnel time is it gonna take to get the Camaro into RACE SHAPE that is $ GM can not afford at this time... Ford has the current Mustang body wind tunnel data (used on the FR versions that are running already as well as the GT500 etc plus FORD NEEDS to be able to say the MUSTANG is a winning platform in the PONY war on "equal" terms on a NATIONAL STAGE, Dodge is gonna do it b/c well we all know it is sink or swim with the Chally it is good marketing in both there case... as for advertising y waste $ everyone knows the CAMARO is out & the car sells itself (case in point of them not being able to make enough fast enough YET) so again why waste $ they NEED elsewhere no need for any apoligy & you won't see an I'm sorry anywhere in here except that you are currently dissatisfied with something on how the BUSINESS of the Camaro is being marketed just remember the more $ saved on the Camaro now means more Camaro later... Hope that can help take the edge of the wait for your Camaro I know I won't be in "mine" for some time seeing how I am in Iraq can't wait to see 1 in person though & then take it to a Stang!

Ridiculous.
Looks like an elephant sat on the front end. Nice going, Nascar. Amazing how far Nascar has declined since that idiot Brian France took over....pathetic.

![]() Yeah a Camaro body would be cooler in NASCAR, but take a look at what Ford did for their Mustang Design. The Race Shape Mustang is ugly as sin.
