Just found out my 2 front winter tires were put on wrong...

so i got my winter tires in october put on by my cousins friend who owns a tire shop, well today i discovered the front 2 tires are on backwards, the tread is going in the opposite way. and it even says on the tire rotation with an arrow what way it is pointing! how does a place mess that up? well im getting it fixed thursday morning and im wondering from october to know what bad things could happened to the tires or my car between that time of them being backwards?

Just swap them left-right. You won't have to remove them from the rims, just jack up the front of the car and put your right-front wheel/tire on the left front and vice-versa. You'll have to get the TPMS corrected (it will only be backwards, they will still work just fine), but most shops offer a free air-pressure check which covers this...

The only "issues" you would have seen would possibly been a reduction in traction and possibly some premature wear, but they shouldn't be severe.

Let's back up a sec . . .

Exactly what tire make/model are they? The reason I'm asking is because if the tires are also asymmetric you may not be able to just swap them side to side. Such tires should indicate which side is the outside. Chances are that this isn't the case here, but it won't hurt to check.

Do they make asymmetrical+directional winter tires?

If they are asymmetrical, they would also indicate "inside" or "outside" next to the rotation directional arrow. I assumed that because the OP didn't mention that tidbit that they were only directional.

Directional for sure and they don't look asymetrical.

Directional tires will need to be take off the car and remounted the correct way. If If they are Asymetric they can not be run backwards they have an outside and inside only. Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow are Asymetrical and Scorpion Winter are directional. If the tire has an arrow then they are directional.

Don't you have that backwards?

I don't believe so. If you have a directional tire put on backwards and you swap from side to side they are still backwards. The need to be taken off the wheel and flipped.

As a side note about Asymetric you can not run the backwards. They have a mount this sideout and you just need to make sure that the OUTSIDE side of the tire is too the outside. It does not matter what direction they are run in.

Does this clarify?

The way you said it though is incorrect, on a directional tire if you swap sides it will rotate in the opposite direction, the left sides rotate counter clockwise, the right sides rotate Clockwise. On a asymetrical tire if the outside tread faces the inside of the rim it will always face the inside unless you dismount it and flip it to the outside.. If they were mounted correctly they wouldn't need to be swapped unless they were also directional.

Yup, I have it phrased incorrectly. Ultimately the tires had an arrow per his post. So they are directional and need to be remounted. I appreciate you pointing it out. Its been a long day.
