My question to you is, why did you ask for our advice if you knew what answer you were looking for? And as a side note, if your friend/dealership is the same guy who taught you how to spell "knowledgeable", just burn the place to the ground and do everyone a favor. |

[QUOTE=Billy10mm;7396317]Sounds like you're believing who you want to believe. If a condition was "normal", it wouldn't trigger a CEL. Any dealership that tells me not to worry about a CEL is a dealership that will never see me or my vehicle again.
My question to you is, why did you ask for our advice if you knew what answer you were looking for? And as a side note, if your friend/dealership is the same guy who taught you how to spell "knowledgeable", just burn the place to the ground and do everyone a favor. im not asking for advice im sharing thoughts with others who might of had the same problem..if you have nothing to add, then post somewhere else!!

I can understand HOPING that other Camaro owners would report that "it happens all the time, it's normal." However... it isn't.
One of the best investments I ever made was in an ODB unit... haven't had to plug it into my Camaro yet, but have used it many times on my older vehicles, and eleventy jillion times for friends and neighbors who get an error light. Sometimes--- often, even--- it's a very minor issue that can be "cleared" with the OBD unit (when it's plugged in, it gives the operator an option of "clearing" it or leaving it), and it can indicate EXACTLY what the problem is. The thing is easy to use, even for a technotard, such as myself, with modern units indicating the error code AND a brief description (like, "misfire, cylinder 3," or "loose gas cap"). I got mine a couple of years ago, cost me $130. Some auto parts stores may still offer the free service of plugging in their OBD unit. AutoZone in California USED TO do it, until some automotive repair group lobbied against it, claiming that it was cutting into their business, with all the damn consumers fixing their own cars themselves, instead of paying a mechanic ten times the price to have a grease monkey do it. So, now it's illegal in CA for an auto parts store to provide the service, but other states may not be as communistic. Just go in, ask if they have an "OBD" (On-Board Diagnostic) unit that they can diagnose your "check engine light" with. |

I have noticed some rough idle / possible misfires on start-up that end after 15 - 30 seconds. There is no check engine light with this, and I just attribute it to the slight bit of cam. I do not consider anything that causes a check engine light to be normal, and neither would GM. If it were, it kind of defeats the purpose of a check engine light!

Even if it was a one time thing, taking it to a second dealer would confirm that you have nothing to worry about. You really want to gamble on a CEL?

You put up an emoticon indicating shock in your original post, which, to me, indicates that you too felt it was absurd that you were told "it's normal". When a bunch of people who know that your dealer is a king-moron chime up to say that he is as much, you go and defend him. If anything - its you who have nothing to add. What were you expecting? That everyone would go, "Oh - so this particular CEL is a normal thing and we shouldn't worry about it. Thanks for that info!" ???? |

Now that you have clarified the exact way that it happened it does change it a little. There are hiccups like that based on maybe a little moisture in a connector or some dust on a MAF sensor or whatever. I think go back to the fact that it was flashing. How do you know 'misfire'? Was there a code, if so, what was the code? |

-20 is pretty freaking cold. ANYTHING frozen could stick momentarily. Oil may take a bit to get up to pressure causing it to do that momentarily too. 0W/30 oil in the winter might help. In which case it would be normal for it being that cold so another factor we did not know. In fact, that would be my guess.
